The Ukrainian government is preparing a false-flag attack against a railway station filled with civilian refugees, in order to accuse Russia of war crimes, the Russian military claimed on Friday. Moscow cited intelligence to name the target, method, and even point of origin of the impending attack, which it said was patterned after the recent carnage in Kramatorsk.
“The Kiev regime is preparing another monstrous provocation, similar to the one carried out in Kramatorsk, to accuse Russian servicemen of war crimes with a massacre of civilians,” Lieutenant General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Management Center, outlined on Friday afternoon.
According to Mizintsev, the 19th Missile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine intends “in the near future” to fire a Tochka-U tactical ballistic missile at “the accumulation of refugees at the railway station” at Lozovaya – a city in the Kharkov region and a major rail junction.

In order to make the strike look like it came from territory controlled by the Donetsk People's Republic or Russian forces, the rocket will be fired from Staromikhaylovka, a village west of Donetsk held by the Kiev forces, the general added.
Such actions demonstrate Ukraine’s “inhuman attitude towards the fate of civilians” and “complete disregard for all norms of morality and international humanitarian law,” said Mizintsev.
“We warn in advance the countries of the so-called ‘civilized West’ led by the US that the Russian Federation has a body of operational evidence about the upcoming terrible crimes of the Kiev regime,” the Russian general added, along with a reminder that Tochka-U tactical missiles are “used only by the Ukrainian armed forces.”

The Russian military has used “high-precision air-launched missiles” to destroy a munitions factory in Brovary, a town outside the Ukrainian capital, Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told a daily press briefing on Sunday.
He also claimed that 68 targets were hit overnight, including two S-300 air defense missile system radars, as well as several weapons depots and fuel terminals. Russia previously stated that it had struck a tank factory and also a facility that made anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles in Kiev.
Moscow has stepped up strikes on the Ukrainian capital and surrounding areas in recent days after accusing Ukraine of shelling Russian villages in the border regions. Ukraine has denied attacking Russian territory.

The former French ambassador to the US and UN Gérard Araud has told China’s Global Times that resentment at the “double standards” of the West is likely turning some countries off supporting Washington’s position on Russia. He added that while the European Union is following America’s lead in regards to Moscow, it will not do the same when it comes to China.
The Chinese joined more than 40 others in voting against, or abstaining from, a motion condemning Russia’s offensive in Ukraine at a meeting of the United Nations last month. India, Pakistan and South Africa were among those who refused to back Washington's line, which didn’t surprise Araud.
“There is a colonial past which is feeding some resentment. There is also the fact that the West is lecturing the rest of the world and using double standards very often,” the former diplomat told the state-owned Global Times on Thursday.
“I'm quite aware that, after all, invading Ukraine is no more scandalous than invading Iraq in 2003,” he continued. “France oppo

US Senator Chris Coons, a politician described by media outlets as President Joe Biden’s closest Senate ally, has raised the idea of deploying American troops to fight Russians in Ukraine, saying he fears the former Soviet republic will “become the Syria of Eastern Europe.”
“The American people cannot turn away from this tragedy in Ukraine,” Coons said on Sunday in a CBS News interview. “I think the history of the 21st century turns on how fiercely we defend freedom in Ukraine and that Putin will only stop when we stop him.”
Asked by host Margaret Brennan about his recent comments calling for US leaders to discuss troop deployments to Ukraine, Coons said policy makers must consider the “level of brutality” exhibited by Russian forces. He credited Biden with pulling Western allies together to impose “crushing sanctions” on Russia, but suggested that more direct action may be needed as Russian President Vladimir Putin raises the stakes.

The fact remains that it would have been so much better if Russia had NOT invaded Ukraine. Just like it would have been if US had NOT invaded Iraq.
But political brinkmanship made both of them happen.
The solution is not to stretch out the war but negotiate an acceptable peace. -

Instead of sending more weapons to Ukraine, the West should focus on trying to resolve the Ukraine conflict through peaceful means, former Czech President Vaclav Klaus has argued in an op-ed.
“The war in Ukraine has been going on for seven weeks. … People are dying,” Klaus wrote in a piece published on the news website iDNES, last week.
“Yet, no serious peace talks are taking place. On the contrary. Instead of calls for such negotiations, we are hearing battlecries and reports of an increase in supply of modern weapons [to Ukraine].”
Klaus, who led the Czech Republic between 2003 and 2013 and also previously served two terms as prime minister, raised doubt about whether the current conflict was limited to just Russia and Ukraine. “Isn’t it actually a conflict between the West and Russia, in which Ukraine is an unfortunate, albeit convenient object?” he wrote.
The former president argued that “the West and Russia must sit down at the negotiations table as soon as possible.” He also suggested that the US,

Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis said more weapons would be sent from the UK to help Ukraine in the battle for the Donbas.
"We're seeing a further push, it seems, from Putin's regime, so we will continue to do all we can to support Ukraine," Mr Lewis told BBC Breakfast.

Internationally banned MON-50 and MON-90 mines used by the Ukrainian forces were discovered in Mariupol, RT’s Murad Gazdiev reported on Sunday. In 1999, Kiev joined the 1997 Ottawa Convention, which bans use of such devices.
They were found inside the Ilyich steel mill. Russian troops and the Donbass forces expelled “Ukrainian nationalists” from the facility on Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“This was set up here with a tripwire,” Gazdiev said, standing next to one of the explosive devices that was lying on the floor. More mines were found in wooden crates nearby.
“Ukraine claimed to have destroyed these anti-personnel mines in accordance with the international treaties it had signed. As you can see – it hadn’t. This does seem to show that Ukraine, by all appearances, lied.”
Kiev has not commented on the matter.
