Okay so apparently it's because Americans celebrate the arrival of the pilgrims...amd we celebrate the harvest. Which tends to happen earlier as we are more northern...thank you google

I have to give two. First and foremost (much more than the turkey), is the sweet potatoes. My wife's family makes a GREAT sweet potato dish.

Secondly, a big slice of pumpkin pie.... MMMMMMMMM!!!!!
