I would be interested to see what happens in the food industry... if my bill goes way up to cover your 15 dollar minimum wage and I don’t leave a tip since your pay went up 10-12 dollars an hour are you losing or making money? Do I leave a tip at all? I believe this will kill the fast food industry. I will not eat fast food at all if it cost the same to eat there or the restaurant right beside it

If multiple people increasing their work skills and knowledge at the chance of getting a job that doesn't pay minimum wage then businesses will start to raise their hiring standards.
If the job market is oversaturated with people who have these skills training, degrees, and accreditations than they wont actually be worth anything.
Thats why a bachelors degree is virtually worthless and you see people with law degrees and masters degrees bossing around people with no degrees..
Simply saying "improve yourself" doesn't fix the situation in the long term lol
-
I mean ffs I know a former brain surgeon who couldn't find a good job in the local medical field after his wife moved military bases so he wound up being a retail manager making less than half his former salary.
I'm sure he would love to hear about how he wouldn't be in his position had he just improved himself 😂
-
You act like “improve yourself” is a 1 time thing. No. Learning and improving yourself is a life long goal. The moment you stop you get ran over by the rest of the world. You evolve. Even if its not in your original or desired field. Keep pushing forward or get pushed out the way.

I paid 50k for a bachelors degree, and made it up in just 2 years of increased salary. I estimate the degree will earn me an extra million or so over my lifetime. It’s hardly “worthless” in my case.
Of course, it’s critical to pick a marketable career. Otherwise, it might be difficult to get value out of it. A degree won’t fix a useless person in a useless career.
A marketable trade is also a winner, but there’s no reason to exclude college just because you want to hammer on sheet metal HVAC housings all day. If you can make good money in a technical trade, you are good enough to make even more with enhanced education.

That’s either the world’s shittiest brain surgeon or the worlds most over paid retail manager. 😁I mean ffs I know a former brain surgeon who couldn't find a good job in the local medical field after his wife moved military bases so he wound up being a retail manager making less than half his former salary.

How many have received degrees in Philosophy, English, Medieval Art and the like that upon receipt were virtually worthless in the job market. Colleges also crank out teaching, psychology, business administration and human studies graduates by the shit ton each year (statistical term). Those degrees doesn’t make someone a competitive candidate in the field, just makes them eligible for mandatory hiring requirements.

I think thats the worst part. The amount of hell you have to go through, to help others.

I think you missed the point- Just because the required degree is held, you won’t be hired unless you are the preferred candidate. Like anything else, you are competing with others for it. I sit on interview panels and can honestly say 90% of the candidates are NOT prepared for the interview and don’t review the job posting, don’t research the position, don’t talk to people who are doing the job and try to bullshit thru the interview with what they think you may be looking for instead of . This is who I am, this is what I’ve done, this is how I have done it, this is how I function and here are the things I can help with. Hell most interview questions answered come across the same pathetic way in some manner or another “ according to policy or direction given by the Supervisor”. - bullshit - I expect you to do the if you’re qualified

That's because the only professionals you hang out with are strippers.

On this day I agreed with VW 🤯Imo people should not be making careers out of a job that pays minimum wage . These jobs are stepping stones and a way for students and retired people to earn a-little money and were never intended to support a household . Stop trying to make it because even 15$ an hour isn't coming close to paying my bills . Perhaps the issue is lazy people idk . They should stop asking for more because its NEVER going to pay the bills nor should it. Maybe they should concentrate on a job that pays well instead of asking for a raise at a job that was never supposed to be a career.🤷🏼♂️

Why do Dems want to push $15 as Fed min wage? Think critically on the info they have provided to OMB ( from B Sanders office). Data they shared. 90,000 lifted out of poverty, $540 billion towards the federal deficit. Huge pluses they have analyzed while also acknowledging it will likely eliminate 1.4 million jobs. Let’s look again.... 90,000 lifted from poverty- who exactly- the elderly on SSA (nope), the pensioners (nope), those on SSD or SSI for disability (nope) the 1.4 million who lost their job (yes and no). Are those who earn hourly wages above minimum wage going to see equitable raises (known as impaction) nope- they are likely to get raises but not at the same percentage that min wage is increased- so in the community economy they will earn less per hour in buying power than they previously had. So where is the $540 billion coming from to apply to the deficit? Easy instead of a new tax they just raise wages so the tax revenue increases as well- you and your employer will pay more.
-
The reality is that it further burdens small businesses and the middle class with decreased profit, higher expenses and less buying power from wages earne. So why is it pushed so hard? I believe it is the same old falsehoods and myths that by raising minimum wage the economy improves and the average joe is making more money while dismissing the premise that cost of living will go higher. Dems base are the feel good, everyone is a part of the family that relays on a voting base of minorities, women, immigrants and social liberals. This policy gets them right in the feels and makes them happy. It gets people re elected. The cost of which is born on the backs of those who they need the most- the middle class tax payer growing their business, supporting a family and paying more than their fair share toward govt overspending. The rich will be unfazed and will continue to prosper, the most economically fragile will take a giant step back, many will lose jobs and some will benefit from an entry level job
-
Correction- it is 900,000 and not 90,000 lifted from poverty from the estimate provided- still a wee bit short of the 1,400,000 jobs eliminated.

Amazon pays all their employers $15/hr. FedEx and ups pay their employees on average $10-$12/hr. Want to guess who one of the biggest pushers of $15/hr minimum wage is?
-
Didn’t Amazon invest a ton into Drone companies . It’s a twofor, raise cost for competitors and lower your own.
