WHO THE HELL CAME UP WITH THE NO HELMET CONTACT RULE?!!?
Forums › General Discussion › WHO THE HELL CAME UP WITH THE NO HELMET CONTACT RULE?!!?-
Thats the worst rule ive ever heard, it contridicts the reason for even having helmets out there, they might as well look like rugby players. Who else thinks this rule is pretty much a waste of time?
-
good rule, bad enforcement

I thought this thread was going to be about something completely different.

i dont like it, it makes the tackling longer and harder for the players. In the cases where they can just smash eachother and get it over with, they stand and try to go for a bear hug to throw em down -.-good rule, bad enforcement

nothing, just that football has helmets for a reason and by making a rule so its illegal for any helmet to helmet contact, basicly kills the sportPrimo Loco wrote:

Helmets were added because people were dying from tackling or being tackled, not so that they could be used as a weapon. Tackling is meant to be done with a bear hug throw down, not trying to give the other guy a concussion

You haven't played on a team have you. It's a good rule but just enforced wrong. If they didn't have the rule, there would be a lot of injuries and early retirement.
-
It's bullshit.. People who have never played come up with this garbage in order to make the game more offensively appealing yet more profitable.. The competition committee pulls something out every year in order to make offense score more points.. I'm sick of it!
-
It's not like that in my school. I get a kick outa baggin helmets with the other guys.

i played with helmets before and i used to play tackle football without paddings (or a helmet) with some of the guys from school and i still prefer helmets hits over bear hugs, they tend to bring the guy down faster and if you get a bad grip on them well... then they just run outta ur arms opposed to where you can just truck on someone n get ready for the next playYou haven't played on a team have you. I don't see what the fuss is about over here in England we play rugby without any padding at all.and I haven't heard of any deaths only the occasional shoulder injury

When I played varsity football we actually did drills where we would "ring each others bell"... basically a face off with all helmet to helmet contact. Probably had something to do with the fact my neck is all fubar'd.

Yes that's great for you. The NFL consists of some of the biggest, fastest and strongest athletes in the world. It's not varsity high school football. Anyone see the Eagles player Hobbs last night? That's why they made the ruleIt's not like that in my school. I get a kick outa baggin helmets with the other guys.

Does anyone else think all the chat about 'helmet contact' sounds really gay??
-
I never understood why u would wear a helmet - surely it hinders vision and movement - and could cause injuries like described - ps I used to play rugby league- it's similar in some ways

The major difference between American football and rugby is that in the NFL you have 11 guys who are all at least 6' tall and between 220 and 340lbs who stop, line up and then run full speed at each other 40+ times a game. And you don't really see people leading the tackle with their head in rugby

Yeah I know my point was that the pro rugby players aren't exactly small and without pads a hard tackle can hurt.I was just saying that we don't moan and we don't have any protectionThe major difference between American football and rugby is that in the NFL you have 11 guys who are all at least 6' tall and between 220 and 340lbs who stop, line up and then run full speed at each other 40+ times a game. Helmets are for protection, not for attacking. You can still go in head first. Just don't use the helmet as a weapon.

Charlie basically said what I was trying to say. I was a RB during my high scho year, my junior year as a Varisty player I got knocked out by not one but two who purposely tackled using their helmets during a game. One went at it with my knees and the other went for my head. I got a concussion that day and my knee wasn't as good as they use to be. Their excuse was that they weren't looking. We could avoid these certain injuries If people tackled properly and not just lowering their helmet.
