Fight Victory/Losses?

What exactly determines a victory or a loss in a fight?
I USED to think it was solely based on who’s attack/defense value is higher, but this does not account for situations where I would attack someone and WIN, attack again and WIN, but attack a third time and LOSE (I checked their profile and their mob did not increase, nor were any weapons purchased).Later this person would attack me multiple times. On the first attempt, they would win. On the second attempt, I would win. On the third attempt, they would win again.
Who wins fights clearly isn’t based on who’s value is higher. (And I did some calculations. My attack value is *slightly* higher than their defense value (by a couple thousand) and my defense value is *slightly* higher than their attack value (once again, by a couple thousand).)
When values are *close* does the fight become a toss-up, or is something else at play? -
It’s not all about mob. You also have to equip your mob properly.

There’s also a slight “random factor” built in to allow some variations in the win:loss. Sometimes you can get one win against someone bigger, even if it takes 20 hits.

The difference in your attack and their defense increases or decreases your chance of winning. If their defense is too far above your offense i don't believe there is a realistic chance of winning.
