I've noticed you guys take in pretty much everyone, with no boundaries on who is accepted. Another thing I'm noticing is that the new recruits are sometimes totally defenseless because of the isolation from the major alliance areas.
Here's a suggestion: If you want to branch out, fine. (I don't recommend trying to go coast to coast. Closer the better), But if you are branching out, mandate that a new branch of your alliance has to have enough support to protect against a medium-high level mob, say 10k. They have to be organizable, and must be willing to fight with their branch. I would recommend about 15-20k mob to be recruited before allowing a branch of an alliance to be formed.

Another bit of advice: make sure that you are good to the locals. In my time as SJ capos, I have made many friends that are very supportive of me, and accept a friendly challenge.

They are making "exceptions" to their rules. This leads to disorganization and holes in the alliance strength.
