Augustine, i think people get heated over topics like religion because they take it very peronsal like its a part their identity. Who they are and they start to feel threaten like you are trying to change or convert them. I have no interest in converting or changing someone’s beliefs and im not afraid of being converted myself. It may sound contradictory but while i am firm and confident in my personal beliefs they are also fluid. Its a personal journey of growth and i like to explore what others believe and why. It may or may not affect my own.

Without trying to insult anyone, all I see when someone says “The proof of God is without God you can’t prove anything”, is “The proof of Zeus is that without Zeus, you can’t prove anything.”
And where in Greek mythology do you arrive to this conclusion? Give me something.
God is the necessary precondition for intelligibility. The myth of Zeus is not nor makes that assumption while The God of scripture does.

I didn’t call atheists “Theists” but religious. I want to point out that atheists do hold to a worldview regardless if it borrows from Christianity or not. These standards nevertheless are religious in nature dispite ones denial of God.

This was also my perspective as well even after understanding Christ is King. I wanted to know why others believed differently and why others didn’t believe at all. Christian apologetics is where it’s at bro

Augustine please show me the book of atheism? I must be doing it wrong because I have no religion. I don’t need to follow anyone’s words. I just am. I don’t borrow anything from any religion. And btw Zeus has been included in religion for much longer than Jesus or god.
-
Btw I let my kids go to a Christian church when they choose to. I don’t hate or judge anyone’s religion. Just when it’s forced or is targeting non believers.
-
I was brought up in the southern baptist church and attended a church of christ school. while at each i i did mission trips and also studied other religious or cults. by the time i was 20ish i abandoned those beliefs and looked more to science and logic. not to replace god really, but to replace man's influence on spirituality. yes i understand the whole idea is create by man. but i would replace the word created with discovered. the same as man didn't invent math and science but discovered it. i hope that one day we will prove the existence of god and it will not be something that we create but something that we discover. as our understanding of the universe increase and the more we discover the closer we get. thats what i hope.
-
some will same we invented. i think it was already there and we gained understanding. we discover how the universe works we don't really create it.

All we create is death and destruction

Do you Have faith in the validity of your reasoning? If you do how do you come to the conclusion that your thinking is rational?
Not even atheistic scholars of textual criticism agree with you on that subject.

That’s stupid of you to assume, especially since 1 of the original Christian stories involves sacrificing your son. I don’t sacrifice my kids because I love them and there’s no false deity to sacrifice them toNo, atheists presume Christian morality without consciously knowing it. There is a reason you don’t sacrifice one of your children.
-
Wait my bad, 2 of the original stories in Christianity involve sacrifying your own son, including your beloved god having his own son crucified.

I agree with not having a reason. I dont believe we need a crutch. I dont feel i do. I dont need to be intimidated into being good. Its not about a heaven or hell. For me its more about persistence, immortality. I want more than what is currently available. The only thing impressive about humanity is its ability to corrupt and destroy.☦ΔUGUSTIΠΣ☦ wrote:

So give the tendency to corrupt and destroy maybe a crutch is needed. Without it we fall into chaos 🤭
-
Zeus is as valid as Abraham’s god. There are thousands of gods that Christians don’t believe in. I just take it one god further.
I can’t insist that “God” is real while at the same time insisting the other 4000-odd gods aren’t. I don’t think anyone can point to evidence supporting any of them over another. We just feel love and beauty as part of our evolution, and an ability to find imaginary patterns in chaos. That’s why humans have invented so many gods. (...And constellations.)
I can’t take writings by a random church long ago as evidence to support cosmological reality, and no logical game will change the fact that other gods are just as valid.
-
maybe all gods are real. maybe 4000 aren't real for one person and another 4000 aren't real to someone else but all that matters is whats real to the individual. and for all i know or care all 4000 could be the same god that understands what it takes to reach someone. i don't care if theres 4000+ or just one or even none. it doesn't really matter enough for me to argue. i'm not going to tell someone their god isn't real because i can't prove it doesn't exist anymore than they can prove it does. to try to destroy someones hope is cruel. let them have their gods. especially if it's the crutch they need or maybe the last thing they are holding onto because things have gone to shit in their lives. Some people need gods. for me none of the 4000 are real. but...whether it's foolish or not i hope something is there. anything. and that ive lived a worthy life. on the cosmic scale my life prob doesn't even rank nano seconds. i want more. more time. more life. more knowledge more experience.
-
Of course this is given that your god isn’t telling you to interfere with my life or harm other people. Lol. If he’s telling you to fly a plane into a tower or something then i might have a huge issue with you and your god.(yes i know the reference were extremist but what i said is still true). Don’t do terrible shit and blame your god for it. That goes for christians as well and the problem i have some some of that old testament crap. “It’s gods will” which sounds a lot like mans will. Go take this land, kill all the people but keep the virgins. Lol. Yeah ok. It’s got mans corrupted ass written all over it. bending god to fit his will. i don't think man can be trusted. I'm not saying that religions are all bad. Honestly I think there are some good ideas, some guidelines and rules for life.(i don't know all 4000+ religions or gods though). I think studying and keeping an open mind is important. hear what people have to say and what they believe and why, don't be quick to discard it. it's wisdom of the ages.

How quickly should one discard Xenu?

What proof is there for Zeus? There are books proving Jesus existed.

I could say the same thing about Christian inventors. And who knows if the Ancient Greek philosophers, etc actually believed in the myths. Jesus was God. And know most prominent historians were Christian.‡℟ɸɱⱥɲ☧ɭɇɠɩɸɳ‡ wrote:

Jesus was a demigod.

When my oldest was 10 he got into an argument with a young christian, when he told her jesus was no god and just a demigod she got so upset she almost started crying, i had him back down and apologize.

If you use the same book that declares the god in the first place as proof of its existence then they all exist. And if you are talking about the other books that support the existence of jesus, still no proof of a deity. Theres no divine scripture or text written by a god. Its all the work of man. Thats a fact you cant get around. Subject to mans interpretation of what he thought he heard or saw. Even today people are stunned by “magic” tricks. 2000 years ago our phones would be magical devices. What proof is there for Zeus? There are books proving Jesus existed.
