How did you guys decide what college to go to? There are so many different choices and it is really really overwhelming.
-
Is it?
First, Pick a career path you want to pursue. Next, eliminate all schools that are not accredited in that field. Now, order the schools from first to last in terms of quality / difficulty to get into.
Now apply to the top schools within your reach as well as a couple safeties.

i just recently decided.. scholarships, my budget, my career choice, and how far from home were the main factors.

Career path is key. What do you want to be when you grow up?
-
(1) Do you want to stay close to home, or are you willing to leave the area?
(2) How are your grades and extra curriculars? What levels of schools are in reach, including budget?
(2) Research schools. Here is a good source for college info I used: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings.
(3)Create a spreadsheet or write down the 20 top schools down that are in an area you are ok living in, have your major, you have a chance at, and you can afford.
(4) Finally, as Fallacy said, choose a few easier schools to get into also...just in case. -
Here’s another solid source to see who has your major: https://study.com/best_colleges_by_major.html.

If I could do it over, I would go far from home. I stayed where I was (scholarship paid for school and then some), and I feel like I missed out on the real college experience.

College can be a substatial amount of debt. You have to research what you want to do and figure out if it’s worth it. Or if you could jumpstart your career without it. There was even an episode on 60 minutes about if college was really worth it and if your job and pay justified spending the time and money. I think it’s worth spending the time figuring these things out before jumping into it and making those financial commitments.

If you’re a talented individual with a strong work ethic. It doesn’t matter what college you go to as long as it’s accredited. The world if full of over educated unintelligent people. Your degree may get you in the door but your work ethic and non complacency make you money. Pick a degree that will make you money. Use scholarships. Don’t forget to eat ass

But either way, I’ve got it narrowed down to Pitt, WVU, or Indiana (accepted to all three). I’m studying Finance, so Indiana is top 10 for that field (sometimes even #1, depending on the source), Pitt consistently ranked top 20, and WVU is usually not ranked in business. But Indiana is gonna cost me 40k, Pitt 30k, and WVU 20k. Pitt is about 30 minutes from home, WVU 60, and Indiana 8 hours +. I’m leaning toward Pitt currently. Am I doing this right?
-
WVU is a serious party school. Make sure your head is on straight before you go there.
-
It sounds like Pitt makes the most sense, if you’re talking about $30K annually, or $40K total savings. In some fields, finance being one, a school’s rep does count. Some hiring managers won’t even look at resumes from people who went to unknown or lesser known schools. It’s petty but real.

For me, it was a shot ton of blow and dropping out of high school 4 times. Finally getting a ged, but getting back on blow and meth. Somehow even though I was homeless for a bit moved back to Texas, layed floors. Got fed up with shit jobs and bosses that fuck ya out of money. Smoked a blunt. Next day took a pee test for the army, fast forward to ETS get a civilian job that’s supposed to be the balling ass career, only to realize bosses are shit, get tired of your buddies killing themselves at home, when war couldn’t do it. Figured out there’s a thing called Industrial Organizational Psychology and look to use that education to hopefully prevent another suicide. But my way isn’t the preferred way

Point was sometimes life is lived before figuring these things out.Ꮋ⌖Ꭲ🔥ŠϦᎥt 💩 wrote:

I agree. Life doesn’t stop or wait for you. The clock is always moving forward whether you are ready for it or not.
