Hyena hopped Sydney to Melbourne a few years back. He was a fellow Aussie so I was happy to simply bask in his glory. I have a feeling it was a couple of thousand hops.

But in all honesty, I wouldn't have hopped a total of more than 500km, even before I reset and lost my turf limit of several hundred. Too much time and effort. I never even hit 10k mob, what can I say, I'm lazy.
