There’s a lot of good advice in this thread, research and training along with insurance (USCCA) paid for lawyer and bail and such. I never go anywhere without carry.(obey the rules😏) -
Being aware isnt good enough. Choose your surroundings wisely and avoid obvious bad situations and areas like the plague. Birds of a feather and all that jazz. I actively avoid certain areas especially if i hve my family with me. Yes i have a gun but that should be the very LAST line of defense. Theres usually choices you have before that. Where you live or decide to hangout and who you are hanging out with. Things that increase or decrease the probability of needing a gun.

That’s why I recommended investing in the best conceal carry holster or else don’t walk outside your house if you aren’t comfortable of the safety of yourself and others.
CrossBreed holsters is very good.I’m sure this guy feels like a idiot and necessarily he should.

TheAntagonist, you should not carry a weapon because your lawyer would have a heck of a time proving self defense while your nametag says you started the whole mess.
On a more serious note; train and practice with your new weapon. Know your local laws. Do everything you can to avoid a situation where you need to defend yourself.
