Geocoder - a community problem.
Forums › General Discussion › Geocoder - a community problem.-
This is a request going out to all members of the TW community. Geocoder is a Google™ program. Hence the geocoder issues we are all experiencing are not down to Apple and is not in Nick's control.
I propose we all as individuals contact google directly to request that this issue is resolved.
This is something for the good of the community as a whole so I would really appreciate everyones support on this so it can be fixed. I'll post contact info for google etc once I've done a bit of digging around.
Thank you all.

Everyone to Steve Jobs!!!

The game doesn't use a google geocoder anymore I believe. It's another company now

I'll quote TW support:
The geocoder data (used to determine where you can build turf and what city that turf is in) is fetched from Google, and the GPS data (where you're actually located) is provided by Apple (when on WiFi) or your mobile provider and/or the GPS satellites when on 3G.

Regardless. Dp you know how much effort must go into the geocoder. Ever 60ft must be Mapped. You aren't going to make anything change.

Lol. Thanks for the support. I thought you would be up for that. Seems you just like bellyaching as opposed to doing anything constructive. I'll draft a sample email people can send on. It's that simple. Not asking for much. Cut. Paste. Send. Done.Regardless. Dp you know how much effort must go into the geocoder. Ever 60ft must be Mapped. You aren't going to make anything change.

Contacting them likely won't do any good. You cna try though. There is an immense amount of information to be added. Google has plans for EVERY road, street, hwy in the world to be mapped and to be photographed for street view.
It is a years long objective, and won't happen overnight.
Info is being added constantly. I've seen a few changes in CA and in AZ in the last couple of weeks. Some towns in CA changed, and in AZ, some previously -no city- areas now have cities.

oh I support it. I just understand and am explaining what this entails. As chainsaw said it already been planned by google it's just not an overnight job and in my opinion the answer lies ingame. There are ways that could be used as a get around for the geocoder issues.Belial wrote:

There is more than one way to skin a cat. This is the core problem tho. I appreciate that the solution will not be forthcoming over night. However, by showing google the numbers backing this it may (or may not) prompt a resolution sooner rather than later.
-
I agree with random! Better to at least try! Change may not happen overnight but...
-
I'll send it mate if you write it ;)
-
Have to find where to send it first tho. Seems a bit of a problem. Lol. You'd think an international organisation would make it easier for people to contact them!

Support.google.com
Try that first, then move on to other generics
Such as support@google.com -
does anyone know for sure which geocoder is used ?

What I do not quite understand is this.
Some of the black spots seem to be on main roads in the USA for example. Surly all the main route have been mapped in the USA as part of the normal satnav devices. Even Google cannot have black spots on main routes can they ? If they did how would their Google Maps and Google Turn by Turn navigation work ... -
If someone creates a draft email and finds the correct sending place, I'll put 2gether a mass mail script to send to google... I think a few hundred a day should get their attention! atleast we should have some answers and find out who's responsible for the in-game geocoder problems....
-
*although I do feel nick is partly responsible...

Why not use thar good sprit and twcommunity to tackle something that is actully important, rather than wasting time on a video game.

Could this also to do with the fact the TW does not care to much about accuracy (to with in 1800 metres etc) rather than the geocoder ??
-
Only one way to find out then!
