Once a marine, always a Marine. You never lose the attitude. -
I have a friend that joined the marines after high school. It ruined his knee & messed up his wrist. Then they let him go because of the physical damage. :(

I'd rather not be brainwashed to do as I'm told without question.

Same here. I joined my high school ROTC program and I really like it. Were leaving the Friday to San Antonio to take a VIP tour of an air base and an airshow. I've been wanting to join the military since the 6th grade.I've decided when I get out of high school I'm going to join the marines. Thats my plan as of now.

Brainwashed eh? If you know people brainwashed by service they would have been brainwashe somewhere else. I also know a "staggering" amount of vets and currently serving mem and women and I wouldn't call any of them brainwashed...there's a few morons in uniform....but they would have been morons in the real world too. Watch your mouth bud.Speedoctor///M3 wrote:

Do you really think soldiers are brainwashed? So in your opinion none of them want to serve their country with pride and help bring a safer life to their family and friends? They choose to serve. They choose to protect and they choose to lay their life on the line for people like you who hold uneducated opinions about what they do. Having left the army (British) three months ago I was never brain washed into doing anything against my will. I chose to join. I made my own decisions and then u chose to leave. It's a national army/force. Not a cult.I'd rather not be brainwashed to do as I'm told without question.

A staggering amount of vets is the measure of which you claim that members of the armed forces are brainwashed?Speedoctor///M3 wrote:

Speed, he calls it brainwashing, you and I call it training, but isn't basic training kinda like brainwashing? The purpose is to "break down" the recruits and build them back up so they will act on a given order without hesitation?
Matty, I don't think he meant brainwashing as to why they serve, just the automatic response say to seeing a higher rank and saluting. Or to immediately do whatever you are told to do without question.

Yo know my forum bashing ass was going to comment on this post. Yo, I would really love phone numbers and facebook links to the staggering amount of vets you know. So I can slap them for allowing them to say they're brainwashed. You know absolutely nothing about the service. All you know is what you saw on CNN while turf wars was down for repair. You probably took a little break, had some cookies and milk and plotted how to take over turf war while we was out the plotting how to keep you ass safe. You use car bombs in the game. I've seen car bombs hand you insignificant loser. Don't ever disrespect the service which Americans risk their lives for everyday. Oh, and I'm brainwashed. I'm brainwashed to kill. And to protect my country against all enemies foreign and domestic. Your comments make me believe you are a terrorist. And I love watching them suffer. So you do the same.

Automatically saluting isn't brainwashing. It's showing respect to an officer that will lead you into battle and it's a tradition from god knows how long ago. And doing something without question. If I was ever told to do something that I thought wasn't right I wouldn't do it. Zraygo thus isn't aimed at you. It's at ripd and his very shallow throw away comment.Speed, he calls it brainwashing, you and I call it training, but isn't basic training kinda like brainwashing? That would be exactly what I meant. It IS technically a form of brainwashing. I just would rather make decisions for myself, and not automatically do as I'm told. That being said, I would fail in the military. And I accept that. The desensitization is kind of nuts, but if your in the army I suppose that handy to have.zraygo wrote:

And you ARE supposed to do as your told on the battlefield. That's What the Amy prides itself on. Loyalty, respect, and organization. If you don't do as your told you get punished.

You want to get technical its called discipline. Recruits complete basic training to produce a specific character, as well as teach them to obey rules and accept authority.

All I'm doing is wording it a different way. I realize thats valuable to have as a soldier, however I'd never want to be one for these reasons. I can't follow an idiot into battle. Can't take orders from idiots. Just doesn't work for me.You want to get technical its called discipline.
