Good question. But it depends how you define "best".
I think there is a group of 10, maybe 20 players that stand out as the "best" in the TW community for different reasons.
Some would point to people like Mickey Dunn, the games most prolific puncher, high bren (70k wtf??), turf count, and the fact that he is a friend and teacher to noobs - to be the "poster boy" for turf wars. A Similar opinion could be held if mystery.
Others, like me, would probably focus on Players involved in alliances and fighting. Even that has many debatable aspects. Are the best players those that built alliances, recruited and trained players, set strategic directions and took care of the social/diplomacy side of things? Or is it the Players that are simply the best on map fighters, willing to hop, heal and cap at all hours of the day? And then there is the question of longevity. Ass kicker for a month? A war? A year? What does "best" mean??

There are many players that have specific attributes worth mentioning. But there are only a select few players that have been both alliance builders/leaders and fighters at an exceptional level over the course of TW. More than likely, unless you played directly with or again them, it is difficult to know or appreciate the true impact of their contributions.
Here are a couple of my picks (in no particular order, except for the last one):
The shapp: I was mostly a newb while the shapp was at his peak. But his value and importance was shared with me by other players. Under his leadership, the Australian alliance (which went by many names, half of which I can't remember) was once a dominant force to in the game, holding airports and cities under their control. The shapp can perhaps be considered the "archetype" of a critical player to an alliance. shortly after his reset his alliance would falter and ultimately dissolve.

Havoc/Addi: I will always think of the STARS as having two time periods. The first was largely defined by the games largest player and Stars member - Havoc. After Havoc reset, Addi stepped in to keep the Stars relevant and dominant. Under Addis leadership the stars went on to recruit many of the games top players and fought many successful campaigns. I consider Addi to be one of the games most intelligent and social players, often seeing two or three steps down the road. Addis second reset and the ultimate demise of the stars is controversial, but her impact on the game is undeniable.
Groucho: like him or hate him, Groucho ran TC like a well oiled machine. Even while facing very unfavourable odds TC fought until the bitter end as a well organized and committed group. Groucho recently reformed TC and is still fighting capo, even if not as relevant as they once were.

Chucky Pacamo: probably the most influential player in the second half of the turf wars timeline, chucky is the last active mega spender (by which I mean mass hench purchaser). Chucky can cap everyone. But perhaps even more dangerous than chuckys bren, mob and turf count are his powers of persuasion. Simply put, Chucky's map and political clout is enough to swing the tide of any war. BAIC claims to not have a leader, but I suspect chucky has played an important role in shaping their direction during the last 2-3 years of play.
Midnight / DAS Hyena / Cromag: probably unfair to lump these players together. But each of them fought against overwhelming odds for long periods of time. Midnight, oh how I miss midnight. He did what he wanted when he wanted, capping enemies and friends alike, burning towns and cities just for fun. TW needs more players like these guys.

From my perspective, Duair stands above all others as the best player in TurfWars. Du does it all - from fighting, to organizing vendettas and battle fronts, and even the less glorious tasks like recruiting and teaching new players. He does it all at an A+ level and has not only lasted the test of time, but has gotten better as the years wore on. Duair is both smart and dedicated, and is the number one reason CAPO evolved from a small "collective alliance protecting ourselves" into a dominant mega alliance.

I remember joining twfc for the uk fight within 3 hours I'd been kicked from about 9 countries mostly by capo and stars lol then when it was over I joined capo and miss daisy and bugsy tore me a new bum hole all over the world they was relentless. I remember a few players I used to dread seeing turn up like bugz , jm, duair, cowbell, and taz the fucker who hunted me till we was friends 😜

but my fave time on tw was my personal battle with taz never a bad word said or received by both of us and he made me spend hours thinking of battle plans for a little game especially for the brighton battle lol
