I loved it when I was a kid. In certain weather I could reach people across the world. Think we called it Skipland. How bout ya skipland skipland skipland. You gotta copy on this 144 Pinesap come on back!!

Lol!!
When I was a kid we used them on long car trips. It was good to have one for an emergency (no cell phones then) or to talk to any other cars you were caravaning with. Occasionally we'd talk to truckers, but they were usually busy talking to each other.

In Australia the old AM CB's were phased out of mainstream use a decade or two ago (nowadays they're basically only used by HAM operators). Truckies and offroaders like myself use UHF radios - and in answer to your question, I own a number of them. I've had at least one in every vehicle I've owned except for my very first car. I have a couple of spares lying around and intend to install one in my wife's car when I get a chance. They're handy in low/no phone reception areas and they're great for when I go out with mates for a bit of bush-bashing. They're also good for getting in contact with other hunters out in the middle of nowhere when I go out for a stalk by myself.

CB is dumb. Ham radio is better. Actucally, with the invention of voip, both are kind of lame these days.

Am/fm SSB, it seems to be a decent entry level place. Eventually I want to HAM.
