The cab drivers in Toronto are threatening to shut down the city roads this weekend when the NBA All Star game is in town ... Any Taxi or Uber drivers who play TW?

I can't blame them for the price difference it is to take an uber as opposed to a taxi I can imagine how much they are losing.

... It's the price of the plate ... In Toronto 5 years ago, they were worth $350k ... Now almost worthless ... Plus they've lost about 30% of their day to day business. I'm all for technology, but the financial carnage for the cab drivers is too bad. But they insist on shooting themselves in the foot by jamming up city streets in protest ... Bet Uber gets another 50,000 customers this weekend.

I'm registered to drive for uber and lyft but haven't taken my first ride yet. My business gets slow in the winter most years so I figured I'd try it and make some extra money but I just haven't found the time to start. But the experiences I've had as a rider are way better than taxis. The idea of supply and demand and pricing based on them is a far better model than the antiquated system taxis have used for a long time. In addition many of the drivers don't own their plates or medallions or whatever they are called in your area. Sometimes a single person in a city owns well over 50% of them and leases/rents them to drivers. These are the people upset with ride sharing services not the drivers in most cases.

I just want to say that I've never sought or enjoyed a conversation with a taxi driver. Uber drivers are like most of us, and they offer a value beyond transportation.

At 30% less cost, an Uber driver gets my $. When I can watch the Uber driver's car make its way towards me on my cellphone, Uber wins again. When taxis refuse to drive to my home, who gets my call?
