Agree in Canada I consider somebody that makes over 100000.00 per year is going to be comfortable. The more money you make the more you spend in general. The trick is to live within your needs and disipline yourself.
But if your whole household meaning you your spouse and 2 kids you won't have much. And no savings -

Well said Edd👍🏼If someone's paying you a salary you'll never be rich !!!
The person paying you a salary may be rich, the best that you can hope for, is to be wealthy (there may be a few exceptions to this but not many).
Wealthy = anybody that earns 3x the national average wage.
That should mean you have the things you need and also some of the nice to have things and would not have to worry about money.
Just my stupid opinion 👍

Just about everyone that does any business through a company earns a salary. The business owner takes a salary.
Please explain. It's almost like the statement should have been: "You'll never get rich working for somebody else." :The classic mantra of struggling entrepreneurs everywhere.
And even then, the list of rich and famous employees is quite long... I dunno.

He's right. The majority of people working for someone else will never be middle class or rich.

Lmfao!!!!! Don't hate on me just because I made better life choices and worked harder.

Why hate on people that make good money? Why not inspire to be like them? You call me rich, ok. I'm an uneducated convicted felon. I found a good trade and I work my ass off. I work 12 hours a day 7 days a week doing a skilled manual labor. Call me rich if you're stupid enough, but don't hate on my success.
-
Middle class aren't so well off anymore either. I have 3 kids and my wife doesn't work. I work for a company that doesn't have great health coverage so I pay $1800 a month. This is because I make too much to qualify for and subsidy in the market place. I make well north of $100k with no college degree and have no debt other than my mortgage. After Uncle Sam takes his cut, there isn't much left so I am far from what others on here are describing as rich.

To call me greedy because I make more is hating. And you have no idea where I've been or the path that got me here. I have no family. Grew up in foster care. I earned everything I now own. You can bitch about $18,000 a year or do something about it.

That guy is bitching about making $18k a year, but somehow has enough $ to drop on TW. Either you're lying or your priorities ain't straight.

I made 5x as much as you, and you have 4x as many Bren as me. Maybe instead of bitching, you should get a better handle on your spending. Think about the kids medicine you could have bought instead of Bren

It simply said he makes a little more than $100k a year and still struggles to pay his bills. He works as a lead mechanic at a Nissan plant. He absolutely worked his ass off to get to where he is today and still continues to. Before he went to Nissan, he was in the MS Air National Guard for 22 years. Again, he worked his ass off while he was there. After things cooled off a little in that big sandbox across the pond, they quit flying as many missions as they were before. So, he wasn't on active duty anymore which means he wasn't making as much money. That is what led him to retire from the guard and move to Nissan. He's been trying to get a job on the oil rigs or a pipeline, but we all know how that job market has been doing. Yea, he may be better off than you money wise, but I rarely see him when I go visit. When I do see him it's when he's walking out the door to go to work.

If Bernie Sanders becomes president we won't have to worry about any of this... Because we'll all be poor 😜

And it's not avoidance or evasion, as that would be illegal in most countries but yes every self employed individual can and will be trying to reduce their tax liability (not illegal ) and if you are SE and don't try to reduce your tax liability maybe you are missing a trick and you should be speaking to your accountant 👍
Legal things to reduce you liability will include paying in to your pension, paying yourself in dividends (20% Corp tax against 40% income tax).
-
Of course. I just asked for hands up of anyone here paying themselves dividends.
One hand up, self employed.
Two hands up if you pay yourself dividends instead of salary. -
You're not rich until you have something money can't buy.

I don't understand this post. I make a TON of money but it's worthless. Mob size is much more important.
-
Im rich because I love my wife & have 2 beautiful kids. I never feel like I'm working, because it's a fun job. In addition, I make just enough to pay some of my bills & can occasionally afford toys. My friends, however, would say I'm well off because my wife is a doctor. It's all a matter of perspective. I've owed less on houses than we do on her med school bills. She also worked her ass off to get to where she is. I don't understand why there are some who get mad at people who have a decent salary, especially those who have busted their asses to earn it. Life is about choices, & she made the choice to to pursue a career that would give her & her family the life style we want.
