Made it to Haiti

dont let the Sally Struthers of the world fool you. There is some serious beauty in this country. Just wish Geo-coder would identify dirt foot paths as roads for laying turfs.

I was actually planning on going there sometime. Where in Haiti did you stay? Generally good service and such?

I'm on Ile a Vache, a small fishing village off the mainland. No electricity or running water here. There are two hotels that run off of solar, wind and generators. We sailed down from Virginia on a 50 footer which took about 10 days at sea and have moored in a little hurricane hole. It is poor here, but simple. The men fish in hand carved canoes and skiffs, there are sweet potato growing in the gardens and the land is covered in cashew, coconut and mango trees. It's not for the faint hearted, but I'm glad I'm here.

Did you take the intercoastal or did you opt for the big water?

Is it true that everyone there has AIDS?

We went blue water. Rounded Cape Hatteras in shit and hunkered down in NC for a few days. Crossed the Gulf Stream and hopped down the Bahamas until the Windward Passage. It was my first blue water crossing and it's been an adventure!

I think the assumption is about 80% on the main island, but I really don't know.

Just docked in Jamaica and got internet access. Google says you are correct, so we'll go with those numbers.
