My WiFi started screwing up yesterday and I need help. It works fine when I'm in the same room as the router, but the speed goes from a 50 mbps to a .5 mb crawl when I go in the next room. I've tried all the unplugging and resetting and even upgraded the firmware to dd-wrt. None of this fixed it. Please help me.

Who's your service provider? My router was working fine up until a week ago. Laptop, tablet, and Xbox couldn't connect to Internet but kindle and iPhone could without issue. Took 3 days of centurylink's fiddling around to finally realize the router was screwy and they sent a new one out.
When I asked how/why did the last one break, they simply said "they're not made to last."

Our wifi started acting goofy Sunday night. What a weird coincidence.

Why reading this thread all of a sudden affect my technology?

Have you tried rebooting the router?

Ok Hillbilly just go next door and ask the neighbors to turn off some of their gadgets or they need to buy more speed because you machine isn't picking up their signal very well. 🙀🙀🙀😳😳😳👍🐢

Did you recently make any changes in location of any electronic devices? Keep in mind that WIFI is basically an RF signal which will allow for interference from any device omitting a lot of energy. Is it sitting behind a TV or computer? This will limit the output of the range. Up high near a light or under a light with a strong transformer? These will omit a lot of energy too and store like Menards or Home Depot actually sell metal plates to deflect the energy. Also, if you have a metal spit can in front of the router that might be the issue too. Spit the Tabasco in a cup like every one else. Last but not least, some alarm system send a strong enough signal to block an RF signal.
Conclusion.....move the router somewhere else. Sometimes just a few inches is all that's needed depending on what is causing the interference. Good luck -
I have consistent 100M up and down, but if I go between my router and chimney(it's sealed up), it gets slower.

Are you on iOS? If so have your phone checked. I had this happen to me after having my iPhone's charging port replaced. Turns out the little wifi antenna inside the phone had gotten disconnected. Sometimes it can get dislodged from drops as well.

If you can configure a 5GHz connection as opposed to 2.4GHz, the bandwidth is much less cluttered, reducing possibilities of other access points and devices reducing the signal strength of your connection. The 2.4GHz spetrum has become so populated in most urban areas that any connection running on it is nearly worthless.

My IPod works perfectly fine on my wifi. Downloads are kinda slow but apps that require Internet run fine. Gaming consoles and computers get crap connection for some reason. 287 kilobyte connection blows
