I'm fairly new and I dislike you. Is that a valid start?

Ok. I'm not completely new but I would like to post on behalf of an inactive player. 8 or 9 months ago I found a noob in the invite forum. He was using his invite forum post as a chronicle of sorts. I saved his posts in my notepad because I found his noob perspective interesting. You might also. Hope you don't mind the length.

* DaMo0ze I Guess, as bumping seems necessary, I could aswell use the posts to try to figure out for myself if: A: This is a pay to win game, only B: Is it fun. (for me)
* DaMo0ze This is my second day of only, of this game, not really sure if ifs for me but I will give it a try. Alkrhough the invite-spamming such seems necessary is a turn off for me. Fun-factors for me: 1. No pay-race to stay competitive 2. No extreme grind So how can this game be played yet avoiding the above 2?
* MD Hope it's ok if I jump in here. How did you discover turf wars if I may ask?
* DaMo0ze Ofcourse :) By mistake actually, I'm playing ingress and a friend recommended a game called "turf". Thought id try it out but after a day I realized this was not the same game :b So trying to figure out if this game will be fun enough for me to play. -
* DaMo0ze Ok, so to continue: Goal of the game = become the Most powerful, First in you area then in the world . Thoughts: Since you can buy turf limit for money, and turf is the base of both influence and income, this is pay to win. My personal goal would be to see how far I can go with a no-paying strategy. Ideas: So no upkeeps if it's possible to avoid. Just increase mob, equip them, get protection money, take turfs with upgrades. Stay away from the big fish. Question: how does influence affect conflict? Low influence might protect me from big players, maybe a small turf strategy would be viable. Because only in mob-numbers id be able to keep up with a paying player, that needs to be the mechanic I rely on.
-
* DaMo0ze No upkeep items: Defence: Galesi Offence: Grenade Armor: Kevlar vest Melee: Brass Knuckles = 28,5k per mob Not really sure what is maxincome per turf, but right now I have 35k. (im lvl 26). I could probably support 200+ increase of mobs every 24 hours, so money dont seem to be the problem atm; I need strategies for getting mobs. Hard grinding work certainly, but there are probably ways to make it more effektiv, otherwise one wouldnt see ppl with 50k+ mobs.
* DaMo0ze other than building a mob, need to use my turfs effeciantly to collect income; where I live theres really no room for more turfs so I need to look for alternativs; basically I want to find less then 86 influence turfs that I can parasite on. That will increase my income. And if getting mob continues to be as slow as atm, then upkeep weapons will be an option to spend the dough.
-
* DaMo0ze Looking around where I live I now have a plan; I need to get to 500ish mobs, and then im gonna try to take over 2 turfs that seems good for protection money. Because there are no room for me to build any of my own. Also need to get to level 30 so i can max out influence on my turfs, then use the extra influence that ive got in items.
* DaMo0ze Im gonna use protectionmoney to finance upkeep of items. Atleast for now, dont want to hamper my economic growth until I know what i need dat money for: - Build Turfs - Buy Items - Upkeep - Police Bribes I wonder if there is anything else. Since I will max out on 52 Turfs, it would probably be easy to figure out what kind of upkeep I could afford. I will take a look at it when I reach lvl 30 and can max my turfs to see the income per turf. -
* DaMo0ze Oh and the above mentioned brass knuckles cant be bought, that was loot. Meat Cleaver is the best no upkeep melee.
* DaMo0ze After lvl 30 levelling isnt that important to me I think. Not until ive been able to place all turfs that ive allready got in beneficial positions. That means that the main reason for doing missions would be getting loot, first and foremost items that gives influence. No real reason to do fighting except for money wich is far and few between. Growing mob and placing turfs would be my main job. And trying to cap to see whats that is all about and how it works. -
* DaMo0ze Goals for now: - Raze and move all my turfs to favorable positions where they start to claim protection money. As of now only one turf gets me extra money, 74k, while one costs me money, 8k. and I have 12 doing basically nothing but making me capo. (I dont care much about that). - Get to level 60 so that I can use my smuggling tunnel. - Try to cap any turf to try it out. - Cap turfs with infl. upgrades so that I can use them for myself. - Get more mob.
-
* DaMo0ze Ok started to make my turfs work for me. As of now Ive got 3 turfs gaining protection money, increasing my income with 111k to a total of 843k. That really goes to show how important it is to place the turfs well, i will easily double my income when im done with my transfer stuff etc. But to fully upgrade a turf from 0-86 influence costs somewhere close to 4 billion, so thats one turf every 5th hour for now. No need to rush it. Increasing mob goes very slow, im at 425 now, that equals about 100mobs aday, and thats me actually putting some effort into it. Not really sure what I can do to fix that, maybe try to get in on one of the rolling lists of invitecodes on the forum.
-
* DaMo0ze Judging from my results; bigger turfs give more protectionmoney; i have one with 4 "protectors" that give 10k, another with 4 "protectors" that give 75k. Only diffrence is the size of the turfs im protecting.
* DaMo0ze Next income phase im strong enough to beat my target; and if im successful i will know if you get to keep the influenceupgrade when capping a turf or not. I might have to wait capping until my closest turf has existed for 24 hours, not really sure when I created it. Probably in the info somewhere. -
* DaMo0ze Got the turf, not much trouble. Won myself 2 bagmen (+1 influence each) wich will be very useful for the future.
* DaMo0ze woops, tore the new turf down, lost a bagman in the process :/ Still got one though.
* DaMo0ze New approach; since most players are inactive, no need for the finesse I was planning; lets just take all the turfs I can, and build the strongest mob possible.* DaMo0ze Ah, so I guess ive got more questions then answers atm, I'll start with this: Is there anyway to guesstimate if an attack (in fight-tab) will yield anything or just give 0?
* MD Basically, the harder it is for you to win, the more XP you get. So if you fight someone who has almost as much mob as you you'll get more XP than someone who has just 1 or 2 mob. -
* DaMo0ze Influence, level and amount of money in the pocket of the victim would affect to, right? So looking for someone I can beat but is as strong as possible is the strategy then.
* MD Pretty much.* DaMo0ze So what is the best way to add mob you think? Even if I wrote until fingers bled on my mobile its very slow going. I wouldnt even have time to add the thousands of ppl that other people seem to have. Is it even possible to do via desktop? Copy paste so much less of a pain with a mousecursor.
* MD (I told him about icm which was our site at the time and explained punching codes. )
-
* DaMo0ze Ok, still slow going though. It feels like the golden age of this game is over? I guess on its peak you would get alot more mobs just by posting your code as many more players where prowling the forums etc for potential mobsters; I see alot of low level players in my area, inactives, lvl 20 ish or so, with alot more mobs than ive managed to scrape together.
* MD People say this game is dying. But people have been saying that since 2010. It seems to have ups and downs. In 2012 it was possible to get 1000 mob in 2 days. Now it takes at least a month.* DaMo0ze ah well... :) 2012 is 3 years ago. Since mobsters are kind of the most vital aspect of the game its a bit deterring.
-
* MD A bit.... I've had a theory for a while now that I haven't really had time to investigate. But I believe that new players will get the most enjoyment out of turf wars if they join an alliance.
* DaMo0ze How does it work to be part of an alliance?
* MD Alliances are 100% unofficial. They use palringo to coordinate. Most alliances have "tags" which they incorporate into their names to identify themselves such as the stars who use a black star in their name. Joining an alliance basically means you have a crew to back you up and whom you'll be expected to do the same for. -
* DaMo0ze IC. Havent decided if ill stay with this game for a while or not. Just getting the hangs of it for now. Its the invite mob mechanic that really bothers me, other than that i probably could enjoy this game. I just dont fancy spending that much time doing something that boring and pointless when there is so much fun to do in the world :) But then again, we all have dead time, waiting for the bus etc, maybe that will be enough.
* DaMo0ze So not dedicated enough yet to join an alliance.
* MD No alliance for me either. It's very time consuming and with 2 little girls.... That's more time than I have.
* DaMo0ze Ah, got a little girl too :) -
Nice thinking. I like the process. I just tend to read the help forums and in game wiki pages before I do anything in games and ask other players about ideas I have.
-
* DaMo0ze Trying to understand the point of temp-codes, what makes them better than ordinary ones? - They are not automatically accepted. - They refer to ordinary players (and the most active ones, the ones likley to accept, are allready in the usual invite-codes section)
* MD (I explained what temp codes are and why they're important)
* DaMo0ze Ic. -
* DaMo0ze Another question; balaclava. Is there a point to using them when capping turf? New owner will still be shown, right?
* MD You are correct. Sometimes people use them to cap turf when they just want the loot. Equip balaclavas - cap turf - hurry up and remove loot - tear turf down and hope the previous turf owner wasn't around to see who capped it.
* DaMo0ze Aha right, was thinking of that but in this case im pretty sure the one im attacking is inactive. As is most turfs. Got myself 2 bagmen for the effort, will come in very handy so great success! :)
* MD Congrats on your first capture!
* DaMo0ze Thanks, tore it down though. And lost one bagman that I forgot to remove / yet one bagman extra is very handy.
* DaMo0ze The one bagman I got, makes me 83k in my new turf. Sweet. Imagine I still had got both :)
* MD Lol. Most of us have been there. Realized our mistake seconds after tearing down the turf. :-/ -
* DaMo0ze Yeah im starting to think that this game is not for me. Most if not all players in my area are: 1. Inactive 2. Bigger then I could ever hope to be. (since they started way back when the game was peaking) It definately feels to me like the game is dying. And since that actually affects game mechanic in a direct way (ie the ability to build a mob) its very non-friendly to newcomers; so no big chance of a sudden revival either. Just my feeling atm. Havent given up entirely yet though.

It seems I either lost or forgot to copy the rest but he only posted a couple more times before he told me he didn't have any interest in continuing. He wished me good luck and said goodbye. I'm guessing he deleted the app as I searched for him later and couldn't find him.
Tl;dr - found a noob - tried to mentor him - he played for a couple weeks, got bored and quit. -
It's John Titor

^^^ That was a hot conversation about TW. It sounds like that dude had the potential to be a beast.

This reads like "Flowers for Algernon".

There isn't a lot of games that are. You just need to keep at it and then you'll be ok

Thats what im thinking, i mean if there were times where mob flowed like water, cool, but i have decided i'd like to play this game, im not going to leave just because it has been easier To get mob in the past, nor will i leave because ill never make it onto the top mob leaderboard. it doesnt mean ill stop mobbing up because ill never be on top if i one day get to the leaderboard in something, cool, if not, well then it looks like ill have to find my place in the game.💣KA-BOOM💣 wrote:
