Story takes place in the near future, where the world is a bleak place to live. Ppl seek refuge from their dreary lives by using OASIS, a virtual reality console where your avatar can live the life you never could.

The creator of OASIS has died and upon his death has bequeathed his entire fortune and control of the OASIS system to whomever can solve a series of riddles and quests that revolve around 1980's pop culture themes.

Gamers from around the world battle one another (and an evil corporation, to boot) over the race to beat the creator's game before anyone else.

It's a great book, well worth the time. If you're looking for a new read this weekend, I highly recommend it!

I listened to the audio book. Big mistake, fucking Will Wheaton ruined it for me.
