Police help

Okay so I know missions fail if cops are suspicious. And I know you have to pay to bribe them by clicking the button when your in mission tabs. But do they take away from your turns income automatically if they're not bribed? And if I do bribe them will I actually get full income?

If your paying police protection they take a chunk out of each turfs income you have.

It says I can buy protection, so I don't already have it; why else would they take money?

They are currently interrupting business, stoping you from making as much money as you could.
So you bribe them to leave your business alone.
