New toy - Nikon 3200 DSLR
Forums › General Discussion › New toy - Nikon 3200 DSLR-
Mrs Turfa and I have been considering getting a new camera for some time now, especially seeing as we had Baby Turfa on her way. Well, now that we've missed the first 15 days worth of baby photos, we decided to foot the $600 bill and buy one. So ... what kind of cameras do you guys play around with?
Pity Belial isn't about anymore, he liked his photography. Who else does? 😊

Too bad you live on the other side of the world ... and judging by the picture you have on palringo, you'd probably break my camera 😜
-
Nikon d800, little pricey but has the best shots. I use it for photography gigs.

I basically had to go for the cheapest Nikon DSLR I could find (Nikon because that's what I've used in the past and I'm biased) ,,, so the D3200 was it. $500 for the body, $150 for standard 18-55 lens, $50 memory card ... Minus a $110 discount and I'm happy with the product and price. Got some excellent pictures of nighttime traffic last night, and some amazing pictures of baby Turfa.Nikon d800, little pricey but has the best shots. I use it for photography gigs.

And you won't need any better than that camera. Be sure to get their 50 mm or 35 mm prime lens to get those awesome indoor baby pics

That's an awesome choice.

Get a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Not too expensive. You'll thank me later.

But the best camera is the one you can afford and feel comfortable with

Back in the 80s, people used extremely low quality sensors called "film". They came in several sizes. "Small" frame was generally anything smaller than 6x4.5cm. "Medium" was up to 4x5 inches, and large was only for studios and uber-gear-nuts that wanted to cart around a box the size of a 32 inch tube television. What do you mean small fame cameras? So if you are stuck in the 80s, you might call what is now as big as you would ever need "small".

"Compare to Leica, Canon and Nikon are crap."
Psh. Not if you spend money on glass. Leica sensors are not all that. It's almost entirely the lenses. An nice Canon 135f/2 or 50f/1.2 will give a cron a good run for the money.
I struggle looking through my portfolios remembering which were Leica and which were Canon. There are a few that pop out as special, sure, but mostly they are similar.
The only REAL difference is how it makes you feel when you use it. But It's often hard to tell what machine made the end product after the fact.

Just for fun, check out the stuff at edrodgers.com, and try to tell by looking at them which shots were an $11,000 Noctilux or a $5000 cron, and which were a $900 canon lens. (There are even some compact and m43 in there, too!)
Those are just some of my personal favorites, but looking at it now, I'd have a hard time telling which are which for a lot of them. The lens defects give away some of the Noctilux shots, which is kinda funny.
The biggest difference is the effort the person behind the camera puts in the craft.

Brown is speaking the truth. We both began using hyperbole. There really isn't much of a difference if you get the best glass

I say it doesn't matter if you're using a Leica, Nikon, Canon, iphone, Barbie by Mattell camera, or what. If you are enjoying using it... Go for it! Ok. The Barbie camera really sucks. Don't get it.

Hey, a bunch of new comments I hadn't noticed till now. B, I researched Leica a bit, and damn they have some expensive cameras!
Don't worry swamp, I don't intend to buy a barbie camera (unless [God forbid] Aurora grows up to like Barbie) haha.
Brown, I'll check out that website later on dude. When I'm on my computer 😝👍

I've been shooting digital on my Nikon D90 for several years now.
I also shoot Velvia-50 color slide film in my Nikon N80, develop, and make my own pint enlargements. Anybody else still enjoying the art of analog photography?
