I just bought my first laptop for school and don't know what to do next. I've already set it up, but friends of my said I need to back it up, get rid of a few default programs, and to get protection for it. This is my first laptop and I paid a lot of money for it. I don't want to mess this up so any advice or suggestion will be fine.

Firstly get a good anti virus on your computer.
Secondly ensure all your drivers and windows updates are done.Don't bother deleting default programs, they cause no harm and take up next to none space.

First thing I normally do is to create a restore disk. PM innocent Saba. She does IT work for a living.

My laptop comes with a couple anti virus, but I think that's from the company. Should I use that or find a different anti virus.

I think Trojan makes a descent antivirus device. You just slip it over your hard drive and it creates a barrier against 99.99% of all viruses. No it also depends on how big your hard drive is. You may need to step up to magnums. My laptop comes with a couple anti virus, but I think that's from the company. Should I use that or find a different anti virus.

I'd recommend using the following.
Ccleaner(Not a spelling mistake). Run it about 1-2 times a week to rid your lappy of unwanted crap. Can also use for uninstalling.
Malwarebytes. I like this little tool, its saved me a hell of alot of trouble. As you'd expect from the name it specialises in Malware. Run once a week.
AVG Free - Anti-Virus/Firewall. Its quite useful for virus' and even lets you know if your lappy boots up quicker or not from when you installed AVG.
All the above are free
be careful what you download and be careful what you're clicking on. If you use Facebook and you see those shitty, cheesy, annoying ads, dont click!
