First computer

I'm getting my first laptop/computer and don't know that much about it. I was wondering if anyone have any knowledge on this subject. Any recommendations, suggestions or advice would be nice. Thank you.

Yeah, I've got some knowledge on the subject. Looking to build or buy whole? Gaming or basic house use? Building is easy and fun as well, so don't rule that out because it's a little intimidating.

Best option(if it's a PC) is to build it yourself.

I remember my first computer lol good old Commodore 64 , loved playing ninja turtles on that bad boy

Sinclair ZX81 for me....they've changed a lot since then

I would say use intel i3 or i5 for general to demanding household use, buy intel i7 for gaming. That's just my opinion though, some people prefer AMD ... as for graphics, I don't have a favourite brand (been outta the game for a couple of years now).
A 1Tb HDD gives plenty of storage but remember, the bigger the HDD, the slower the read/write times. I use dual hard drives in my computers, 250Gb for the operating system and 500Gb+ for storage.
My personal favourite OS would have to be Microsoft XP Professional, but I'm not even sure if you can get that anymore. I'm also not sure how good Microsoft support would be on it these days, or even if it could be activated!
The few times I've used Windows 8 I absolutely hated it but with that said, I have heard good reports on it. Probably worth looking up some recent reviews online in that regard.Good luck, computers can be good fun but they can also drive you nuts!

Spectrum was mine :-)

Amstrad cpc 464, the one with an integrated cassette player, for loading software.

An i5 is plenty enough for gaming I have a i5 3570k and it does everything just fine. A cheaper solution for a cpu would probably be a AMD 6300. A graphics card for the most part determines the quality of the games you can play. As for os Win8 is faster but it also has the U.I that you may or may not like win7 is slightly slower but without the U.I. And I believe Win 9 is set to come out early next year. But honestly os is personal preference. And every computer now days should have at least 1tb of storage no matter how you do it.I would say use intel i3 or i5 for general to demanding household use, buy intel i7 for gaming. I would say that every computer user should have at least 1Tb available. Sata drives are hot swappable like USB, so buy multiple data external drives :)Mr. Smrks 👌 wrote:
