VIETNAM WAR
Forums › General Discussion › VIETNAM WAR-
Was this war justifiable? I'm a big history buff, and have done extensive research and have came up in the middle, teetering to it wasn't our war. I was wondering what the TW community thought about it.

My Dad was a Sniper in this war, and lost many of friends there. If it was right or not, who are we to decide. When they get ordered to go, they have to follow orders.

Oh, no, I support the troops one hundred percent. Infact, I want to be a marine. I'm just saying, was all their sacrifice needed. Did 58,000 soldiers have to die? Not to mention ones having affects from Agent Orange.My Dad was a Sniper in this war, and lost many of friends there. If it was right or not, who are we to decide. We think that Agent Orange, killed my grandfather, he was in a mortar unit of the 2/7 Air Calvary. He wasn't apart of Landing Zone X-Ray or Landing Zone Albany. He came in as a replacement after Albany and came home in one piece, that was all I could ever get him to say about his time there. Good man, died of kidney complications.Vlad_Dracul_315 wrote:

Are the vietnamese victims, civil and army, included in 58.000 ???

The whole point was to stop the spread of communism. Even though it technically "wasn't our war", we needed to keep up our policies against communism in order not to appear weak to the Soviets. Showing unwavering adherence to our policies was the only effective way to stay competitive in the Cold War.

If we lost another country in the east to Communism at the time, America thought it would be the end. That and I feel like they totally wanted to bring the drugs from 'nam back to the states... It was big business back then, still is now. Dont think we had any just reason to go there, at all.

Then thats the difference between us.
People like you count in "ours" and "theirs", people like me count in dead men, women and children with names, no matter which "side".I didnt want to hijack this thread, but i couldnt resist.

I have deep condolences for anyone's family that has lost a loved one. Yes the have names, and yes some would've still died if we hadn't gone in. But I counted our brave men since they fought and died for something that wasn't their fight. I feel sorrow for the men, women, and children whose blood soked the ground. My question was did they really need to die. All we did was prolong the inevitable unification of Vietnam. If we hadn't gone in then a lit of people from both sides would still be alive.destroyer92400 wrote:

The problem is it didn't do any good. If you practice any religion you will never advance in any company you work. Corruption is there but easy to buy your way out. I seen police on the arrears of bien hoa give tickets. Puts money in his pocket. Or takes your scooter if you have no money. Problem is no one over there wants to make waves.

Arrears = streets.
