Where are you getting your numbers? Current numbers are 1604 infected, 888 deaths. It's all fine.
Four cases in lagos, one a doctor. Just seven of the estimated 150 people potentially exposed are in quarantine.
Time to worry? -

I'm referring to new cases, in Lagos Nigeria. The largest city in Africa. Most of the previous infections and deaths have been in rural areas.[Add:Baz]Boffer wrote:

If ebola gets going in a fairly squalid, urban area with a population of around 20 million, I'd say that would be a concern. -
For some reason i cant help but think that the origin of the ebola virus is man made...
I dont know why i do though.
There are other certain virusses that spring in mind and make me feel the same way. What i mean in the case of ebola is, i dont remember ever hearing about that virus in the late 70's and 80's.
However, another possibility that springs to mind is that somewhere in a very remote area, it was picked up by people that found "new life forms" like plants and animals...
But still, the man made idea keeps getting the upperhand when i think of it.
And no, i dont want to start off a conspiracy theory of any kind, there are way to many of those floating around already...

Ebola is already in NYC lol nd im stuck with these guys

Fartex, viruses are simple, tiny balls of DNA. They adapt and evolve very quickly, all the time. That's why we can't eliminate influenza, it's a different strain every year. Same with Ebola, it doesn't take a government conspiracy for a virus to evolve.
-
Spain and Saudi are on the list now
-
@fartex, ebola is thought to originate from fruit bats, and id guess it wasnt reported in 70's 80's because of the remote locations in normally occurs? Just speculating because im really not a biologist 😜
-
How long do ya'll give it? I say around a few years (2 to 3) before we have a major Outbreak. I heard it's VERY, Contagious.

Ebola has been blown out if proportion when you consider this...
"in 2012, there were 207 million cases of malaria. That year, the disease is estimated to have killed between 473,000 and 789,000 people, many of whom were children in Africa.[1]"
-
And this...
Cholera
"Worldwide, it affects 3–5 million people and causes 100,000–130,000 deaths a year as of 2010. " -

You can say the same thing about influenza, except for the fact that cholera requires ingesting feces. And this...

Ok, how about the flu then...
"Influenza spreads around the world in seasonal epidemics, resulting in about three to five million yearly cases of severe illness and about 250,000 to 500,000 yearly deaths, rising to millions in some pandemic years. "
-
Compared to Ebola...
"
The CDC reports that there have been 5,987 cases of Ebola since 1976, resulting in 3,385 deaths. (as of September 29, 2014)" -

This right here. All it will take is for 1 person to be infected with Ebola for it to evolve to airborne capabilities. Hence why they are rushing to stop the spread. The more that get infected, the higher the chance it evolved to beyond our control.Fartex, viruses are simple, tiny balls of DNA. They adapt and evolve very quickly, all the time. We have the means in this country to combat those other viruses you mentioned. Ebola is a whole different animal.one that kills babies primarily Preemies and babies in the NICU is RSV. There are RSV break outs in hospitals all over the countries.😢Compared to Ebola...
