Cancun?

Anyone been there in the last year or so? We are deciding on a vacation and my wife wants to go there. I am concerned with the safety though. What are your thoughts or experiences?

Go to Cozumel. It is amazing. However I don't think there are many resorts/hotels on the island. It is a big cruise ship stop. I have been there twice both for 2 weeks and it was probably the best 2 weeks of my life

My brother in law was there in august. Had a great time. He was told to stay in the resorts

I stopped at Cozumel on my cruise last year. Definitely a cool place👍

Wife and I go there every other year, but yes I agree Cozumel a bit further up the road is where u want to stay

Maybe go with a group of people, stay in a big group in a populated area, check out the sites during the day, don't do anything dumb and u will be fine. I was in Playa Del Carmen I 2011 by myself before I met up with others and was ok

I was in puerto morales just south of cancun in January. You'll be fine, just be careful with ATMs being skimmed.

This! Now Jade was a nice resort. Beach is kinda shitty but who goes for the water anyways

Stay with the tourist.
Dont go wondering off too much after dark. Cancan is fairly safe, I been there when I was younger.

South of Cancun down at Riveria Maya area is good, stayed at a resort called Bahia Principe, really high quality and nice resorts.

Been there a few times. English and Dollar are well spoken throughout the area.

The police bunkers every couple miles along the highway (with machine guns in full view and ready to go) are a little disconcerting the first time you see them, but they are there to keep trouble from encroaching their money pit (aka the tourist areas).

I always ventured off with either a package tour or some kind of group. Can't say I ever felt "unsafe" during my stays there.

I have been to Cancun several times. Stay on the main drag and you shouldnt have any problems. Great vacation spot!
