Anyone have experience dealing with a family member that has Alzheimers?
-
Grandma has it. Never has any idea who her kids or grand kids are. Pretty sad, but they take good care of her in the Veteran's home.
-
3 relatives, 2 who have since passed. Short term memory is gone. Long term gradually fades away also.
-
Really sad stuff. Grandma has it, she thinks I'm her son, my dad her husband and my grandpa her father.

My grandmother had it, as did her sister & brother. Her other sister died from colon cancer before she was old enough to get it. My mom probably would have gotten it if she hasn't died at 56. They did an MRI of my brain last year to make sure I wasn't showing any evidence of Alzheimer's changes. I'm not, so I can't blame my sucky memory on that, lol.

Every woman on my moms side has/had it. Really fucked up stuff...

My grandmother has had it for years, and has just entered Hospice care. Very sad.
-
Yeah, it's fucking terrible.
-
I'm sorry what was the question?
-
Jk.
My dad is in the early stages. He constantly repeats himself and occasionally forgets words.
-
It gets so much worse, join a support group man. It's fucking terrible.

My mother in laws mom has it. (Grandmother in law?)
And as The Man said. It's fucking sad. She doesn't even recognize her own kids or husband of 55 years. It really is fucking terrible. -
Ya my grandfather died with it last October. It was sad to see him turn into a person who couldn't remember anything. I still cherish the stories he used to tell me when I was a kid about jobs he worked on and the guys he managed. The details he could relate were astounding. But when I saw him last time before he died he couldn't even remember who I was. He kept asking my mom who the strange man was that was sitting on his couch. Made me cry so bad. I just remember the Papa who used to let me sip his "Old Sytle" beer and that makes me happy. Hope your dad doesn't have to go through all that.

Sad but true... Try to make the best of it for their sake. We would visit and bring family photos on our iPad to view..... often the same ones week after week... with the same stories. Sometimes parts would be remembered sometimes not -- but now in passing, I take comfort that they were received warmly and with love.

But some times they strangley remember some people, my great grand mother had it but only recognizes her sis, daughter and grandaugher. (Shes ~90)

I had 2 aunts that sadly came down with alzheimers. One of them fit in with all the previous posts. But the other aunt was incredibly happy. Crazy happy, but happy. I wish more victims of this disease could feel like her.

I work with dogs and see this all the time. Their diagnosis is Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. It is basically the same as alzheimers in humans.Bam pot wrote:

My grandmother is in the early stages. It's sad to see. She remembers who we are as of now but she forgets how to get home, her actual address, if you call her and talk to her she'll call you all day, she sees your name on her called ID and thinks she missed your call. The only plus is she knows it's hitting her, her mother and gram had it. So she's got post it notes all over her walls to remind her of things. But she's getting to the point she can't remember why the notes are everywhere. A terrible disease.

I've delt with it to its grave

My aunt had it before she passed. She knew who everyone was, and could tell stories from way back when, but would stop every two minutes to ask you if you'd like something to drink, or a cup of coffee, or say "oh there you are, when did you get here?"
