Fallout 3 is better technically, and I preferr the character development, but they are fairly similar.

I liked them both immensely. Depends on what theme you like more. I did like oblivion more then skyrim.

Fallout 3, but there is a pack I think you can get that is fallout 3 and oblivion not sure if you can get it for ps3 though

Definitely fallout if you like this kind of game. However, elder scrolls has more of a story built around others where in fallout you build your story... Kinda hard to explain...

Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Skyrim. All good. However, I liked the post apocalyptic motif in Fallout better than the magic stuff in the others. Is there anything newer like these out there?

Fallout 3 was great, but New Vegas captured the spirit of the original two Fallout Games. Too much subway tunnel crawling for me in 3.

That said you cannot go wrong with Oblivion. I have to have 500+ hours into the game :)

In my opinion, oblivion.
In oblivion, the skill levelling was more fair and realistic. You got better at fighting by actually fighting. Better at using magic by using magic ect. If you can't use a certain spell or wasn't good enough at something, you'd train.
While fallout, it's possible to be a master repair man or explosive expert which ever fixing anything or every using a explosive. Because you put points in it upon levelling up instead of gaining points doing the activity like in oblivion.

But it basically comes down to this.
Like fighting with swords, bows, magic and fighting mythical creatures? Oblivion.
Like guns and rocket launchers, radiation and mutants? Fallout.
