Rest in peace Great Grandpa Henry
You fought in WW2 European theater, earned 3 bronze stars as well as many other medals. You were a special services soldier whose equipment included a garrote, M1 garrand, and 4 grenades. You fought in the battle of the bulge and was the leader of the squad that liberated Buchenwald. You were personally thanked by Eli Wiesel, Eisenhower, Patton, and Omar Bradley; yet you are not mentioned in history books because you were humble and at the time you only cared about going home to see your wife and children. I look up to you great grandpa, you are a role model to me, and I looked up to you until the end

Sorry to copy what Yeti said but he sounds like a great man and may he rest in peace.
By the way, my grandfather also fought in the WW2 European theater. He was in the Air Force and flew bombing raids over Germany. At the end of his service he had advanced to the rank of lieutenant colonel and earned three oak leaf clusters among other awards.

Hay Ross I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm sorry to see you have lost your grandpa. I love my grandpa incredible much and am very close to him, so I can't hardly imagine being without him. The only thing I can say to you is that it will eventually get better and I will be praying for you and your family.

Sorry man same thing happened to me a few years back except my grandad, he also fought in WWII for the Greeks though hope he rests in peace.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Many in the military do their jobs quietly and well and they deserve added respect for that. Always try to keep the good memories. My father is still with us but he fought in Austria at the end of WWII. 👍
