Nes collection advice?

I have took a liking to retro games earlier last year and have just now had the option to buy games for the nes. But since I wasn't around during the 80's, are there any games that you would reccomend that were or were not super popular? (A.K.A Zelda, Mario, the likes) And that should be added as the first games in my collection?

Punch out seems to be pretty famous on other websites, thanks for the reccomend actions copper

The original Final Fantasy is great. Castlevania series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, RBI Baseball, Baseball Stars, Double Dribble, Double Dragon, Tecmo Wrestling, Contra. If you want difficult, look for Ghosts 'n Goblins and Battletoads.

You should google search for overlooked NES gems. Like guardian legend, clash at demonhead, zanac, just to name a few. There's lots of good games that u may enjoy without just looking at the classics.

If you want some more rare games that were at least entertaining try burgertime and stingers from space. Boy and his blob was okay too.
