Couldn't believe they buffed all that graffiti. Seeing that building on the 7 train was unbelievable. It's a shame it is no longer there. Fuck the politicians. RIP 5points.

Done Pee ;-), would you mind providing some more details for players outside your amazing city?

Genau. Am beschten ertzschälscht wasch auschm Schwabländle....

As an ex-writer, that hurt. It's hard to believe NYC wouldn't recognize the cultural history it has contributed over the past 40 years via graffiti, dancing, and hip hop and declare 5 Pointz a cultural landmark.

The owner decided to paint the building that he owned because somebody defaced it by painting all over it. Good for him.

Huge let down 👎

Not at all what happened.
The owners have allowed the building to be painted legally for 20 years now in what was a NY city project. People from all over the world went to NYC to do murals there. When the owners decided to tear down the building and build condos, the artist project curator fought for the building to be declared a cultural and /or artistic heritage site. NYC didn't want to pay the developers for the building site, so it went to court, where a judge found in favor of the building owners.

Lot of great art, gone...
Some artists aren't even around to leave their mark there anymore and its all erased. Sure a blank canvas is nice, but that building, to me ..was beautiful -
train graffitti is the best 😎

Being an ex writer also,I think what has happened to 5 pointz is a crime in itself but the same is happening in the uk. The train journeys used to be quite fun looking at the good pieces and throw ups and they painted over miles upon miles of great art with a poop brown paint

The only kind of street art people will leave anymore is stuff by people like Banksy.
Everything else is "graffiti" and isn't viewed as art anymore. It's a damn shame.
And there's people that deface Banksy's stuff too just to be spiteful. -

I know banksy is a great artist but I'm oldskool and don't think anything can match a hand done piece with just a can and a sketch pad no stencils. Some of the r.i.p photo like murals are amazing its a shame because these people could and should be proper artistsThe only kind of street art people will leave anymore is stuff by people like Banksy.

5Pointz Aerosol Art Center, Inc. is an outdoor art exhibit space in Long Island City, New York, considered to be the world’s premiere “graffiti Mecca,” where aerosol artists from around the globe paint colorful pieces on the walls of a 200,000-square-foot factory building.
It was called 5 points because it signifies 5 boroughs coming together.
