Chief Editor Addresses Criticism:
You know your doing something right when people start criticizing the things you are doing wrong. None the less, I recognize that neither I nor any of the Turf Tales News staff are perfect. While the general response has been good, I have been criticized repeatedly since I started the news. This week seemed to generate more criticism then normal. I will attempt to address the criticisms below:
Grammar/Typos: This was the first criticism I received. Since then I brought on Slacker as a copy editor. He reviews all the writers material and ensures we are keeping things as polished as possible. The only sections he does not review are the ones that I write – I edit my own materials and will take ownership for any typos or errors I make. -
Consistency among writers: I often get comments that the news isn’t consistent amongst writers. Truth is I don’t want it to be. Each writer has their own personality and opinions and as long as they are maintaining the Turf Tales News Philosophy I want them to follow stories and leads that interest them. Over time readers will come to develop favorite writers given their views and opinions and look forward to the articles written by their favorite writer.
-
Fact Checking: I often get criticized along the lines of “your story was wrong” or “you cut out a detail”. To this I can only ask: what is the “truth”? When trying to report facts it is easy to get lost in the differing opinions and versions of how things occurred. The news is often watered down of some of the nastier or more controversial topics because of this reason – there will ALWAYS be different opinions of what the “truth” is. As for cutting out details – this is merely a logistical reality. It already takes an hour to report the news, and the NEED to keep stories at a manageable length outweighs the WANT to include every little detail.
-
Not reporting certain events: Yes, I have stayed silent on a recent outbreak of war. Truth is I had no idea how to deal with the story. The news isn’t about me or my alliance – it’s a celebration of the game. In no way will I use the news for self promotion or for my own benefit. If the leader of the opposing alliance can accept this (we had a chat) then the readers of this publication should as well. Other options would be to (1) suspend the news during times when I'm at war (2) never report on war or (3) abandon the Turf Tales News project.
-
All in all I have enjoyed the news, but make no mistake it is a lot of work and a lot of hassle. I told myself when the news stops being appreciated and respected, I will stop writing it. I hope I have addressed some of the previous criticisms. For those that are not fans of the news or do not trust my ability to run the news I would like to extend a “opt out” option to any person or alliance in the game. If you don't want to be EVER covered in the news – send me a PM asking for an opt out and I will respect your wishes.

Turf Wars Couples
It wasn't that long ago that I despised this game. It seemed that 〓V W T E C H〓 was constantly staring at circles on a map. I didn't see the point. About 5 months after he started playing, he jokingly downloaded the app on my phone. He figured I was just going to delete it, but I had to see for myself what all the hype was. I was hooked immediately.
He recently told me that he didn't think I would last as long as I have. However, he is happy that I am still playing. 〓V W T E C H〓 said, "It's cool that we play something together, to have something in common." This is true. We have fun coordinating air support and BS'ing on Pal. Though we do wish that we could V together. When asked what else he enjoys most about me playing TW with him, 〓V W T E C H〓 reported to me, "I enjoy going after people that pick on you." Ahhh, my knight in shining armor! However, he is jealous that I have more time to play than he does. I'm jealous he gets all the Respect Points!
-
We both agree that our fondest memory thus far was the battle in Atlanta. This was my first warfront, and he helped me through it. People started wondering if 〓V W T E C H〓 and 〓MrsVWTech〓 were in fact one person. I think they learned quickly we were not the same person. I'm a bit nicer. Haha, just kidding. Our styles of play are similar, yet he is more aggressive than I am. After all, he was my first teacher in the game. We find playing as a couple in the same alliance as beneficial and fun. So I leave you with something that someone once told me, "a couple who play together, stay together!"

Tallyho!
For ages one of the most powerful alliances has been based in Australia. They were known as “The Borg”. The Borg controlled much of Australia and was headed by two of their largest players, TheShapp and Tallyho. As time went on, the Alliance grew and contracted as players came and left. The Borg became known as DBoRg following a merger with DBR who had just finalized a merger with the Freedom Fighters.
The new group would experience growing pains as different perspectives and priorities pulled the group in different directions. In the midst of these challenges a series of departures by significant players who left to join TWFC would challenge the viability of DBoRg. And then the unthinkable happened. TheShapp was reset.
-
Following the loss of TheShapp, DBoRg would splinter. Most high profile players would move on to new alliances, and a new alliance would be started. “The Firm” would rise out of the ruins of DBoRg. Leading the charge of the new group was Tally. And yet the wheels of change are always in motion. As reported earlier this week, Tally has left The Firm. Turf Tales News caught up with her recent departure.
FAL: Tell us about the beginning of your TW career. How did it get started? What kept you in the game?
Tally: My near neighbour told me to download the game. It took me 6 months before i astarted to play, and since there was little activity in my home town i hopped to sydney just in time for the airports to open. My Start date is somewhere around March 2011.
-
FAL: Did you have any mentors during your early days?
Tally: First it was an OG called Sinch and once i got to sydney it was The shapp
FAL: What prompted the merger between Borg and DBR? What were the challenges?
Tally: The Borg were initially in alliance with TWFC on the recommendation of Missy Jane. When truces were made we found that we had a lot more common with DBR and found it to be a good fit. It never seemed like it was a challenge. Easy actually. it wasnt hard. Missy left to be with TWFC at the time
FAL: How difficult was it for the group when you lost TheShapp?
Tally: lost TheShapp was one of the BIGGEST blows!! He WAS Borg. I and several other players were very shocked by it all. We carried on for a few months but a lot of players had lost interest.
FAL: It is my understanding many of the Australians know each other in real life. Does this complicate the game?
-
Tally: Several of the guys knew each other and yes it made it difficult .. but i am too far away from ever having met anyone in R'l except Sinch and one other. But these mobs were canberra based , i am too far away from most LOL. In the FIRM there are a lot of players who know each other in Real life.
FAL: Why did DBoRg break up?
Tally: amongst the few players that were left in DBoRg, a few lost interest and others went to other alliances (mainly the stars) because they wanted to fight. some became turf huggers and some just didnt have the inclination after all the resets...
FAL: As DBoRg fell, The Firm rose up. Were you the leader of The Firm?
Tally: yes a lot of the original DBoRg came along with me to play with The Firm. Yes i was the leader of the firm.
FAL: what were some of The Firms greatest achievements?
-
Tally: That is a hard one to answer, we considered an achievement whenever we won a battle. In Sydney and canberra I must say we have always had great support from our allies like Capo and Stars. These allies always made it more achievable.
FAL: Can you tell us about why you have decided to go solo?
Tally: WE as a group no longer had the same Vision and trust was lost. I love being in a crew so this will be different. Not sure how long I will last being solo. LOL. But for me the crew needs to have the same vision, and work together. If not there is no point in being part of a crew.
FAL: Do you plan on finding a new alliance?
Tally: i do think so. like i said I enjoy playing with a crew.. makes it much more enjoyable. But in the meantime i will see how much i can do to help out other allainces ...
FAL: Any final comments for the TW community?
-
Tally: Everyone always falls back to "It's only a game" yeah sure it is but it is sooo much more. People put Real dollars into this game. And the characters are unique. that is what makes this game. I say Make FRIENDS! Don't be mean and nasty to each other.. keep it FUN

Self Help 101
Vendettas (V)When might you start a V?
1. If you're in a war
2. If you are being harrassed/bullied by a bigger player. When should you NOT start a V?
1. A player attacks you
2. A player caps a few turf (see last week's self help section on being capped)Things to remember while in a V:
1. Your defense is 40% weaker to all players except those targeted in your V. This means a smaller player uninvolved in your V may be able to cap you.
2. Your V uses eveyone's Stam and Health. Coordination with your v-mates is key. If you have just one player in the ER, that may be enough so you cannot win against your target.
3. V target's turf is not capped by you, it is destroyed. The value of the turf (as if torn down) is distributed amongst your V mates.
4. You can be a member of only 1 V at a time. However, you can be targeted by multiple.
5. Vs last for one week. -
6. Your V is not live for 24 hours. So don't try to destroy turf before that 24 hours is up.
7. Your V can target up to 4 people and you can have a total of 4 members, including yourself.
8. You cannot invite the same players in your V to another V for 30 days after the V ends. Also, the players in your V cannot invite you into another V for another 30 days once your current V is over. However, if someone who was not in your V starts one when yours is over, they can invite you and any of your current V mates.
9. When inviting players to join your V, keep in mind they must be level 25 and they must be within 1000 miles or have turf within 1000 miles of the Target. -
What to do if you are targeted by a V.
1. You have 24 hours to try to persuade V members to drop out. Being diplomatic really pays off at times.
2. You can start a defensive V. Target at least one of the members in the V against you. Ask people to help you out. (Re-read things to remember while in a V)
3. If you can't recruit anyone, try sending V members to the ER. This will temporarily prevent them from participating in V attacks (until they heal) which may make it hard for the V to destroy your turf. PM other players in the area to see if they will help you ER members. When requesting help in the Vendetta Forum....read Mystery's thread on V's before you even post. Be prepared to spill all when asking for help.

Happy Turfing

The Power of the Classified Ad – Players looking for an alliance:
The reach of this newsletter has grown. As far as I can tell, players are enjoying reading the news and I thank my team and the community for all the hard work and cooperation in making this project worthwhile. One of the reoccurring sections that I take the most pride and joy in is writing the classified section. This is my chance to give back to the players that give so much to me.
The most successful of the classified ads has been “players looking for alliances” section. This weekly report lets the recruiting officers of major alliance’s know who is on the market. What has been interesting to me is hearing how effective the ads have become. While not all players have landed in a new alliance, every single one has received inquiries, and most have received multiple offers. What has surprised me the most is the speed in which players are contacted. Often within minutes of posting players are being interviewed by recruiters.
-
Some players have asked questions about how the classified ads process works. The answer is that it is really quite simple. Anyone who has read the news knows I follow a template that includes pointers on play style and credentials/special notes. In terms of the “behind the scenes” operation, just like the articles and rumor mill sections that I write, no one is shown the material I write until the news is posted. Not my writers, not my editor, not my alliance mates. Why so secretive? I want everyone to have the same opportunity when the news hits to attempt to recruit. It also gives my writers a reason to read the news on launch date 😉.
Some testimonials on the classified ads:
-
Euser: The classified section in turf tales is great. Within hours of the news publication I had multiple messages from multiple alliances which really helped me and was a lot easier then searching the map to find an alliance to take you on. I highly recommend using the classifieds to your advantage as it will help 99% of people’s game and makes it a lot more enjoyable
Shags: No i haven't landed anywhere. I expected more offers to be honest. If this keeps up I'll end up havin to apply to join u lot.
Funky: I got some offers out if it. Best way for a player wanting to spice up their game to find a new home.
Opus: Yessir werked great. I got messages like 10 minutes after ya put the thing up. I found myself in a new home with a great bunch of turfers.
-
Running the classified ad for Shaggly Razors was a proud moment for me. For such a high profile player to come to me, rather than post his own thread, was affirmation that this publication had gained a foothold in the TW community. And while Shaggly is still seeking the right home for him, I am hopeful that more high profile players will contact me if they are looking for a new home. Worst case scenario, you will get to see how much interest you can garner on the free market.

A M@D POINT OF VIEW ON MUNICH
First I hate to admit but Rud cap me out of Munich about 5 weeks ago. I got lazy flew in lay 3 turf and did not check on them. I made the long shameful hop back from Frankfurt. 4 weeks ago when I arrived back in Munich the AP was aprox 60% contained with M@DHITMEN and some scattered allies on the front lines. I don't want to name names in fear of missing someone.
-
In the past few weeks Rud's presence on the front lines and spamming tactic has slowed if not halted. SIN, CRO, BUGSY, and again if I miss some my apologies have done a solid job of defending the front lines. Unfortunately the oppositions numbers seem to have the war in their advantage. With many of M@DHITMEN off travel discount and some choosing not to V they have been successful in pushing back the attacks taking advantage of this discount. With 100% of the airport secure and moving fast into the city and recent decline in enemy activity there the fate of Munich looks to be in M@DHITMENS hands. Let's hear from some on the front lines.

M@D - Who has fought back the best if any?
GREEDO - Apache Cat is the best. So far, Cro mag defensively is a healing machine But no matter where I hide a turf the cat sniffs it out. Whether it's an omertà or a color match , using maps - no matter what he finds itM@D - Is your forward progress satisfactory?
GREEDO - Slow. you would love to go in and rip a whole somewhere but against experienced fighters you just can't do it. To me any forward progress is progress, but in this case it was slow and tedious.M@D - Who has been the most help and why?
GREEDO - Plenty of people get kudos. Decide, FUBAR, lead foot , shanker. That's the great thing about us is that there are so many working together. It's hard to pin it on one person. It was great experience for a lot of players. Of how a war with some pretty formidable foes who know how to fight I think a lot of people learned a lot. -
M@D - So past few weeks how has progress been and who is adding to it in your eyes?
DEICIDE - As far as I know, greedo , fubar, bigman. but to be honest I haven't been as much as I would like. I'm not really pushing the lines, I think those guys are and i'm following in behind them. apache and cromag where keeping me pushed back for a while.M@D - As an non alliance member looking in what do you see as the end result to this war?
DEICIDE - There is a tide to wars. it comes in waves. eventually it may shift back in their direction. I fight for the fun of it. To me it doesn't really matter who is winning or losing it's just being involved that matters. -
In attempts to get comments from the opposition I ran dry with little comment or little knowledge of the war. It seems this war has been fought by many, some come and gone. Sometimes when your enemies you fight just to fight. I don't know of any big moment this fight was decided just kind of happened. Sometime a fight loses its luster for one reason or another. Will this war continue? As far as I can tell yes with some select few still wanting a fight. With the current changes to the map only time will tell.

DJ - Congrats on you mob milestone of 74k. Did you ever think you would achieve this?
Fachan -No I didnt, I remember after my first year and being 10k
DJ - What made you persevere with punching all those codes?
Fachan - Back then before plane tickets it was 1 mobster who terrorized my part of Canada
DJ - which mobster gave you the kick to get punching?
Fachan - I would say there were many who encouraged it, lots are long gone now like Gunns and Philly Muscles, then there were others who capped you so that you wanted to punch like Big Bill, Red Fox and Midnite
DJ - What techniques of punching codes worked for you? And what advice would you give to someone who is not a keen puncher of codes?
-
Fachan - I needed something quiet todo while my wife slept in the other room, so I would either hop or punch codes. I finally broke down and bought a Bluetooth keyboard and it made it alot faster Now its just part of my daily routine
DJ - what did your wife think of the hold tw had on you?
Fachan - she thought it was funny. she accused me of first having an affair with Midnite, then with Cracka not realizing they were both males
DJ - haha. My missus don't get the whole game as it is so questions are always asked lol. So, What's next on your agenda?
Fachan - Right now I am taking a break from battles, but I am still capping the odd turf or 10 and continue mobbing up
DJ - who were your best enemies to fight against
Fachan - there were many, Midnite, Big Bill were the first, then there was Draconian and Stresshead (both were reset) I missed out on alot of the TWFC war that took place at IOW and other places but have had good battles with FS and Bomp
DJ - congrats once again fachan on your 74k warriors

The Rumor Mill
§ БΛЯИΞТТ §
Former twfc ranger Barnet has found a new home. The 18.3K player joins the long list of former twfc (and allies) players to join former enemy alliances. When asked about his new group, Barnet simply stated "their great".
Srawfrut rest
Another mega mob vet has reset. The 73k mobbed player disappeared from the mob leaderboard earlier this week sparking questions as to whether or no the reset was forced or voluntary. A review of his public comments wall revealed a nasty history of posts. Requests for comments to sraw were not returned.
Graveyard goes solo
Echoing the recent departure of tally, mid sizes mob Graveyard has also left The Firm alliance. Details over the departure remain unclear.

RUMOR MILL: The Attack!
This is M@D reporting from the front lines of the recent attacks on a well known alliance, The Commission aka Flames. With capping happening all around I am in constant fear for my turf. The attacks started Halloween night by members of both Stars and Capo. No speculation as to what prompted this attack but none the less it has started a BLOOD BATH! With turf falling by the thousands and the rumors of who is going to help who we can only speculate that in the coming weeks there will be many surprises. It is much too early to predict the outcome but with the surprise attack, The Stars and Capo seem to be hell bent on SMASHING as Saba likes to call it. On the other hand The Commission has bonded and will not go down easily. They are in the offensive swing and are returning the SMASHING.*
*this rumor mill has been prepared by m@d with not input, influence or direction provided by fallacy.
