The Scary Side of Turf Wars:
Turfwars has a dark side. I can still remember the first time I was truly scared. I was running a small alliance at the time (The Feral Fighting Syndicate). We were working on our first project, establishing a base for our members. For one reason or another, we settled on Atascocita, Texas, which is located just east of Houston. I remember landing and completing the hop (Imoen and OSU won the race to get there first, if I remember correctly). A day or two later I received a PM that some players will likely remember....
-
Mystery: Welcome to the Greater Houston Area. My name is Mystery; attrition is the Houston capo. The Houston safe zone is no longer active. Some suggestions to avoid making enemies: 1) Try not to cover us with loot upgrades, 2) Try not to take our capos unless you are just hopping through, 3) Try not to cover the little, active noobs, 4) Please do not cap inactive players; cover inactives for protection money instead. (I've left a comment on most inactive players' walls stating they're inactive), and 5) Unless you are at war, please do not cap anyone completely out of Houston. You can PM us with questions, issues, or suggestions, Houston-related or not. You can also join the Pal group: [HouSZ]. Happy Turfing!
Hmmm. I thought to myself "maybe a new friend?" And ooohhh, look at that mob! I better give her a heads up about my little group. I sent her a little note, letting her know who we were and that we were a peaceful training alliance and meant no harm.
-
Mystery: “Why are there a bunch of FFS people here? I don’t want an alliance of out of state people based here”. Uh oh. Guess we should have touched based before we landed. I sent her a message confirming we had no intent to cause problems in Huston.
Mystery: “It’s spelled Houston. I have worked hard to keep Houston a relatively stable place. I don’t want the drama here that an alliance brings. No one said anything to me about this before now”. Then the capping started.
As I watched our little base start to burn down into the late hours of the night (I remember staying up late that night watching my iphone and worrying), the FFS leaders discussed possible solutions. Luckily, Tweek had a mutual friend with Mystery. Belial vouched for us, and ultimately Mystery decided to cut us a break and allowed our little group to stay. It was a close call and a terrifying moment in my TW career.
-
Mystery: Looking back, it's funny. I did end up making some new friends from it (like fallacy) which I'm glad about. I think better communication on both sides could have avoided the conflict.
It is not just a series of events that can terrify the TW community. Sometimes it is the players themselves. The name “Smoke Monster” was legendary during my first year of play. Smoke was the first player to invest heavily in brens and had an unheard of 23,000 after the first Christmas they were released. In addition to his bren arsenal, Smoke was a dedicated hopper and was known for just appearing on his enemies doorsteps.
-
Perhaps Smoke's most terrifying attribute was his ability to strike fear in opponents by simply saying two words: “Knock Knock”. This became Smoke’s signature catchphrase. Once a player had been targeted by Smoke he would post “Knock Knock” on the targets wall for all to see. It was equivalent to a death sentence and ended in a list of players resetting after falling onto his shit list.
Smoke has been inactive for quite some time (perhaps a year?) and yet the power and fear his name conjures is still present. For that he earns my nomination for Turf Wars most scary and intimidating player.
Player Submissions:
Sabassaul: I don’t really ever get “scared”, but I had a serious “oh F#*K” moment a few years ago after capping Jmac. Shortly after capping him I was hit back by Mama Tech and a number of others, as well as a string of threats.
-
Maybe Katie: I remember being turned inside out by Loverboy during his rage caps.
Scarlet Luck: Mystery scares me. I have had a couple of run ins with her. If I see her name I tend to turn and go in the other direction.
Mat: Mystery scared me a few times when I was smaller. She capped me a few times for capping inactives.
Mystery: I was scared of everyone when I started, lol. One person that really scared me was Drizzy. He wanted me to join his alliance and made threats about taking my capo if I didn’t join. In the end I joined and ended up loving the members of GC3. I was truly scared at the beginning of the Mystery War and I’m still afraid of Bugs Bunny.
-
Picasso: Wec. When I first joined PAX some of us where fighting him. He wasn’t anywhere near me so I joined the fight. Within a day or two he was everywhere in my hometown. I learned real fast as a noob of how to deal with losing turf, and for that I have a special place in my heart for Wec.
Vishbume: I've always been wary of the mighty swing of the ban hammer.I have felt some of its light blows to leave me temporarily without voice.
-
Seeker: First player that frightened / intimidated me was Orion. He was the first person to cap me. I learnt the hard was for taxing larger mobs lol. But he showed me some mercy and taught me about mobbing.
LaTortuga: Once, when I was a small player I sniped someone in Vegas to help a friend. Within minutes someone went limit on me. Damn I was not happy but I was a little smarter. Nothing is as scary as having a whole alliance hitting you from all sides.
Mrs VWtech: I was so scared of all of the players VW had capped. I was scared they were going to get revenge on him by going after me!
-
Whyte Rhyno: When I first started doing "flowers" havoc mr deux and addi hopped in out of no where and wiped me out with no response. I was only like 10k and I knew I had done something to piss them off and I thought they were going to wipe me out. I was ready to just quit. After 2 weeks I hadn't heard anything and nothing at all since.
Yogi: Nothing is scarier that hopping past enemy lines. Especially if they catch you and start capping your ass!
Maverick: Viper is the one who scared me I guess. Kind of an ally but you never know with him.
-
Dee: Bugs Bunny. One night I had been drinking, saw she had capped 3 or 4 of my turf. I sent a msg to her say “F! U! Prick”. I was a noob keep in mind. I woke up the next day to her going limit on me, and leaving me a message saying “How did that work out for you? See you tomorrow night”. I thought I was done, thought I’d have to quit playing. I sent an apology letter and never heard back from her again. But I am definitely scared. Still.
Bugs Bunny: When I flipped sides and left CMS Viper capped me a bunch. Been afraid of that slithering snake since then. He'll play rough when need be. Saba cause he's just plain crazy with his behind the scenes messing with people’s minds. Never know what's coming next. And, of course, Punch and Addi...great map strategy that requires being relentless to survive.

HALLOWEEN HOOD HAUNTING
The night was like most Halloween nights of the past. I was hanging with the mob at our local turf, the sound of parties, kids running the streets in search of candy and the buzz of what normally is a peaceful night with less people getting capped. As the night wore down I began to have an uneasy feeling from the oddly still night. Standing out in front of the turf having a smoke I could not hear almost anything. No wind , no animals just still calmness. I began to look up and down the street in search of a signs of a potential attack.
-
"WHAT YA DOIN" shouted BigMann startling me and about giving me a heart attack. "What's wrong M@D" big said slapping me on the back.
"Something's not right my man" I replied shaking my head.
"Stop tripping man, come back inside" turning and walking away.
-
As I stood and stared walking with BigMann something caught my eye passing In the street. As I turned to look thinking its a passing car nothing was there. Starting to walk again I hear the sound of roaring engines. Fearing the worst I run and dive for cover. Peaking out to see what's going on I see a stark white car almost ghostly and flying down the road. It was mist like with balaclava-wearing HOODS gunning down my turf. "GHOST HOODS" I shout, get the guns! Out comes running the mob just in time to see the GHOST HOODS returning. Only this time M@D MAMA is driving with an evil smile on her face. Grinding to a halt in front of us she yells out the window, "I GOT YOU, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!" and speeds off in a cloud of dust.
-
NEW TRADITION HALLOWEEN HOOD!
I made up this story to start a new tradition like gas day lets call it HALLOWEEN HOODING! Hit with hoods along with an "I GOT YOU, HAPPY HALLOWEEN". Have fun, do with it as you please.

THE LIP GAME
The art of talking trash is something some of us are good at and some are not. On the other hand one persons trash talk may be offensive to others and is GOING TOO FAR! As in most competition there is a degree of trash talk; in TW there seems to be a large degree of trash talk. Wether you call it smash talk, trash talk or just plain talking SHIT, people do it to get under their competitions skin. The Lip Game as I am calling it can play out a few ways and I thought it would be fun to look at this side of TW.

WAR BANTER
In the heat of the battle I find banter is common in PM or on V walls. I would hope that most the time this is never taken to seriously, but we all know better. It's common to heal a turf or limit capping and give a little stab at someone. "Better luck next time LOL" or "Damn I hate limit 😂😂😂" are some simple war banter examples. Do you let it get under your skin? Some do some don't but the next question becomes how to respond. I personally try and use humor when someone is talking smack but for all I know I'm not funny. Some fire right back with some banter of there own. It's when this banter crosses a line that I think the game can become less of a game and more of a personal vendetta. -
CROSSING THE LINE
To define this is difficult because it's different for each person. In an attempt to get under someone's skin we may do or say things we could regret. There is another side to this coin where the person means to. Taking the banter off the map is probably the number one reason someone may say "YOU CROSSED THE LINE". Talking about someone's personal life in my book is just poor form. Their family, race, sex, or whatever is just a place we should keep from going when talking trash. In the end we know this type of banter will continue as it is effective and gets under the strongest persons skin but in most cases is disrespectful. -
THE GRAY AREA
Turf warriors being from all over the world differ on many levels. Talking trash is very much included here. One countries abrasive banter in a different country is taken offensively. As stated before some peoples skin is just thicker than others. This will vary person to person, city to city, state to state, and country to country. I'm calling this the gray area because simple trash talk for one is crossing the line to another. The gray area is a common cause for things to get personal when it was not meant to. -
We all know its much more easy to write down something than to say it to their face. With that in mind you can see how easy it is for banter to become personal. It is part of the game let alone part of life. There's always someone trying to keep ya down. DAMN THE MAN!!! Keep this in mind DON'T LET THE TRASH TALKER SEE YOU FLINCH OR THEY HAVE YOU RIGHT WHERE THEY WANT YOU!
THIS HAS BEEN ANOTHER M@D POINT OF VIEW

Mob milestone article
DJ - Congrats on your mob milestone. Did you ever think you would achieve this?
Tally - No way! I never thought it was possible LOL, but i do regret that i stopped punching for about 4 months because of family and game issues :(
DJ - What made you percevere with punching all those codes?
Tally - Because I wanted to be able to play a much better game and I could help out with other players with larger mobs, punching codes is like a game itself, just like people like lots of turfs and I didn't want to buy a whole heap of henchies.
-
DJ - What technique of punching codes worked best for you? And what advice would you give to someone who is not a keen puncher of codes?
Tally - Technique, use ICM - It' the most reliable site and I have tried them all. Do 25 per page, do the first page first then do the last page; ie : the latest. Punch codes before you do anything else on TW.
DJ - What's next on your agenda?
Tally - To never retire LOL and keep playing and run a good crew, where everyone enjoys the game, and not be such a softy LOL. I wanna be tough LOL got any advice on that ? haha and learn not to trust every man and his dog.
-
DJ - Any advice on being tough? Be mad like me! No remorse! No consequence. Lol. Something you could adopt you think?
Tally - Yeah i try and then i freak them out when i go hard on them cause they are used to me being a softie LOL. I hate repeating myself. When I ask something I would like it to be done without me having to explain it over and over again. I shouldn't have to be hard on anyone ! we are all in it to WIN our battles. DJ if i hadn't had some kind of softness about myself you would not have had any turf left. LOL. I actually felt bad that i had capped you so much. LOL. I never want to cap someone so much that they stop playing.
Thank you Tally. Keep up the good work and once again congrats on your 70k mob. 👍

🔥T⌖Rex🔥: dinosaur finds new home:
As revealed earlier this week, Trex has joined The Commission alliance. Trex is the latest in a string of new members for TC in what is assumed to be a recruit drive. Turf Tales caught up with Trex to discuss his new alliance, as well as the details of his TW career. This is a Turf Tales investigative exclusive.
FAL: tell us about the beginning. Any early motivation?
Trex: Nick's turf history said 26th of nov 2010 & that sounds about right.
I downloaded turf wars while off work recovering from an operation and was hooked. During my early days when I had less than 1k mob I started getting capped a bit by a local player so that motivated me to mob up & have never stopped since -
FAL: did you have any early mentors?
Trex: Missy Jane helped me when I was smaller & for that I was very grateful. I always felt tied to her.
FAL: can you tell us how you ended up with the TWFC alliance?
Trex: Before twfc I was a member of the Borg alliance, which was an Australia based group. Somewhere along the way another Borg member started capping me because I was not helping enough. I decided to follow Missy to twfc.
After Missy reset i had a disagreement with shaggly razors over a long standing truce I had with Saba. I could see no reason to stay with twfc & went solo. It was soon after Missy reset that I stopped fighting.
-
FAL: after you left twfc and went solo did your enemies continue to chase you?
Trex: No. When I let them know I was solo & neutral they all left me alone. Great bunch of players & very fair play.
FAL: how hard were you hit by Missy's reset?
Trex: Very. She was the only person I felt close to in the game & we had been through a few big battles together.
FAL: any insight as to why she pulled the trigger?
Trex: No idea & did not see it coming. I've talked to her a little on GS but never touched the subject.
-
FAL: how did you like your solo time away from the big fights?
Trex: I enjoyed the downtime at the start but was bored by the end. Turf hopping is not nearly as much fun when you are not chasing an enemy.
FAL: So how did you end up with TC?
Trex: About 6 days ago Groucho capped me in an area I have lots of turf. I sent him a pm to see if it was a one off or if I should arm up an prepare for a fight. He replied (probably joking) with my name tagged & said it looked good on me. I agreed & it went from there. I've been in a few battles against TC & they seemed like a great respectful crew.
FAL: are you looking forward to dusting of the Tommy guns and rejoining the fight?
-
Trex: I sure am as I miss my Tommy guns. I'm giving my old allies 48hrs & a chance to cap me out of areas. 2600+ attacks overnight & mostly from SiN, he's a great fighter & we've had some great battles together.
FAL: so after the 48 hours I assume it's fair game? Your former allies can expect to face you on the field?
Trex: Yes! I will go wherever I'm needed & fight TC enemies. Im not sure how it all works yet but i would expect that i will be helping TC allies also. I have to thank Groucho for giving this game a new lease of life for me.
FAL: thanks so much Trex and congrats. Any final comments?
Trex: Thanks to all your capo mates. They are a great bunch to fight against & I'm sure an even better lot to fight alongside with now.
Thanks for the interview & the great amount of work you and your staff put into turf tales. Its the best read on the forums ever! -
Groucho on trex: "TC is very pleased to be working with such a well known and well established veteran tw player, who is a beast on the battlefield. We have warred against each other in different arenas before he left TWFC, and he always fought with honor and integrity. 🔥T⌖Rex🔥 is blending very well with our crew and we look forward to fighting many battles together in the future!"”

Self Help 101
What to do and what not to do when being cappedMost of us have captured (capped) other people's turf, and most of us have been capped by other players. This is part of the game! If someone caps a few turf from you, it's not something to whine about! Heck, reach out to the person and say hello, you may just make a new friend. It's not a very good idea to start running your mouth, calling people names, using profanity, etc. Its not a good idea to car bomb someone for capping a small amount of turf. This may lead to them capping more. For crying out loud, do not start a vendetta against the person if they cap a few. And if someone is capping you, try to heal that turf, you may discourage them if they are wasting too much stamina (although let's face it, by the time you get the alert, it's usually too late, unless you are ʗ☈ʘ🔪ϻẠǤ, who is notorious for his healing skills. Anybody that's ever fought against him can attest to that!)
