Turf Tales โ Issue 4.
Welcome to Issue 4 of the Turf Tales News. This marks one month of delivering news to the Turf Wars Community.
Last weekโs rumor regarding a possible move to Pal distribution was met with considerable resistance from the community. Given that this publication was always meant to be for the community, I will heed your collective request to keep the news on the GD forum - for this issue. A number of suggestions to get around the post per minute rule were made. We are currently exploring them. In the meantime - please join our petition (see fachans thread) for nick to give us some assistance.
I hope you enjoy our latest installment of the Turf Tales News. As always - please check out our pal room [Turf Tales News Room]

COVER STORY
BUGS BUNNY the killer behind the name. One of the games OG players was nice enough to give me some of her time to get some more history on the game we love TW and learn a bit about her. Bugs is one of the most respected and feared players on the map. Letโs see how this came to be.Do you remember downloading TW and why did you do it?
I just saw my actual date on the history map. Feb 10, 2010. My son mentioned it. I thought it looked pretty lame but thought why not.
How much time did it take to get into the game?
For about 2 months I had NO IDEA what I was doing. Then some local started capping me. I mobbed and grew and capped back and he got this thing called an alliance involved.
Do you remember there name, the local that attacked?
Doctor J. No longer plays. Anyway I got the taste for capping and caused problems with someone in Orlando and got invited to CMS. This was right at the start of vendettas. -
Wow the start of vendettas, how did that effect the game?
It allowed group capping. Back then 2,000 mob was pretty high so you needed help.
Why the name bugs bunny?
I am not creative with names and pretty certain cartoons were playing in the background for my nephew so.... Works well because I like to hop. Itโs certainly not a killer mob name.
So you have been playing for awhile, what's your most memorable fight?
We had a great time in the early days of CMS. There were allot of laughs and my first REAL battle in New Orleans. Seems several players didn't want me there. I woke up one morning to 6 v's. All of CMS leant a hand best they could. I just kept aimlessly hopping around trying to keep at least a turf while Addi and Punchclock pursued me relentlessly. They blocked me near a remote area my spamming every open spot, BUT they missed one spot and I was able to escape and hop back into New Orleans and a truce was declared. Addi and I were still 'enemies' at that time. -
How did that change, when did you leave CMS and or become friends with Addi?
CMS was great in the early days. But then greed set in and we decided to grow and bye bye to the tight knit fun group. I left CMS and at some point the entire group disbanded. We reformed and tried again but it wasn't working for me so bye bye again.
What does CMS stand for?
Central Mob Syndicate.
So on the subject of grew to big, do you think the small group is better than the large alliance structure?
Somewhere in the middle of that I went cap limit against Havoc. LAW a group formed out of CMS started helping fight against havoc relentlessly. Non stop. In a group it's all about dynamics. Not to say you can't have a large group but the larger you get the more varying the opinions are on what and who is worth battling. Addi started chatting with me and convinced me that Havoc wasn't this evil monster we all thought so I did the unthinkable and flipped sides. Well that was an experience. -
Well that was an experience. I all of a sudden had everyone I'd been playing with for more than a year capping me. EVERYWHERE! So the 3 of us banned together and spent the better part of 8 months fighting back. NON STOP pretty much. 30 of them vs the 3 of us. Havoc and Addi are great at strategy. Me ? Just tenacious to the end. Towards the end BAIC and the Massholes lent a hand and the forever battle was over. Wouldn't trade any of it. While it was tiring at times staring at the map it was a blast to fight against those odds and survive. Some people still can't understand me flipping but wouldn't trade any of it. Became good friends with the evil monster referred to as Havoc and Addi is the best. I also ended up a Masshole shortly after. Viper (old CMS), Johnny O and Sabasaul made the game enjoyable again with their โwho gives a shit attitudeโ fun was the recipe.
What's your best memory with Addi and Hav? -
There are so many good memories I'll have to think on the best one. Gosh even back in the CMS days I am remembering one day we decided to just nuke Philly. Within an hour we'd captured 100's and 100's of turfs between us. Next day someone (I'll keep his identity up toNext day someone (I'll keep his identity up to guessing now) had to write an apology speech. I think we all laughed harder over that than the actual burning. The last memorable Hav memory before his surprise reset was Dubai. I was convinced I had planted enough turf to get some actual sleep. Several hours into sleep I was being woke up to PMโs on Pal. Wake up its war!!!
Letโs talk Massholes, Stars, and Havfam was there a time when it blended?
Massholes and Stars have always been aligned yet separate. When Hav Addi and I emerged from the battle with LAW they created stars. A couple of old LAW members eventually made the move over to stars. They're a great group. -
LAW was Evil Empire at the lead and Bellia he was a shmuck. Way tooo serious and full of himself. Not a whole bunch nice I could think to say TBH. I remember when I flipped sides I spent TWO full days explaining why. OMG. Like I'd shot his dog.
Letโs move forward in time, today right know who is your most hated on the map and most liked?
Havoc my most hated and most liked. When he was hanging on by a thread he created these circles around Houston airport with lines connecting. Basically 3 layers you had to break through. I remember cap limiting him a couple days straight by the very small range I had on him. It was awesome. Best memories were actually meeting up in AC and Denver. Call that my favorite map event actually.
Where do you see the game going?
It has slowed down a bit but not in the grave like some people keep posting. For every BIG player that quits there are 10 or more 30-40k players still playing. I think the tournaments have breathed some life into it, some new competition. -
OK LAST QUESTION. Is M@D the sickest SOB you ever met or what?
You are a dead tie with JO, CRAZY, Both of you! -
On October 1, 2013, Fallacy sat down with some past and present leaders of Pax for an interview. This is a record of that interview.
FAL: Approx. when did pax begin? What does it mean, who were the founders, and what was the basic philosophy?
Slacker: Well, pax is Latin for peace. The philosophy is simple really: pax's goal is to help new players become acclimated to the tw environment. In terms of when it started and who founded it, it began in March of 2010 and was technically founded by GLMan (under a different alliance name), although I completely started over when he turned it over to me.
-
FAL: As far as I know, Pax died about a year ago. Many are aware of a new group, BLS, founded and ran by Brizz, which also shut down a some time ago. A few months ago I heard the name Pax was in use again. Can you explain what happened.
Brizz: I should field this one. To be honest, after Pax had its issue, Slack was very distraught and wanted to quit playing. Being the charming wife that I am, I tried to rally the troops and show him how many people were still loyal to him. From day one that's what BLS was: a reformation of Pax with me as a placeholder leader until Slack felt like he wanted to take back the reins. When that time came, BLS temporarily went underground to officially come back out as Pax with Slack as the leader.
-
FAL: So it was pre-planned all along, rather than BLS failing?
Zablo: nothing really happened with BLS, we just switched names and leaders.
Brizz: Like I said, it was always understood that Slacker would come back and I just happen to make an excellent diversion.
FAL: Can you speak briefly to the collapse of Pax that occurred in the forums?
Slacker: Pax didn't collapse. There was an exodus.
Sauce Boss: No collapse, it was the large group that left that was vocal about downing Pax. Thinking highly of themselves under the belief that Pax couldn't exist without them.
-
Slacker: Basically- and this is a bare bones account- there was a member who left and many remaining members wanted to go after him, which we did. He went to a large player to complain (Tajik) which created war. That war became more than the group could handle and led to suspicions of a mole. Those suspicions eventually turned to me which caused the exodus.
FAL: I was in some BLS rooms. To me it seemed like Brizz was the spirit of the group. She aggressively recruited and had many loyal to her. Yet she wears the tags for another alliance. How has her departures impacted the group?
Slacker: Well, to be honest it struck us, but we respected her decision. She chose to join a group that would put her more into the action, so to speak.
-
FAL: Do you miss your old crew Brizz? Anything to add?
Brizz: I was a HH recruit before their merger with Madfam and, at that time, I was asked what I would do if the HH ever fought Pax. I will tell you what I told Bleez: I am very loyal to my new group. I love them and have a good time with them. That said, Pax is full of people I have been with since day one and I would quit the game entirely before I would cap, for example, Zablo, Chykin, or Sauce. It would never happen. So, yeah, I miss and love them, we just had different playing styles.
FAL: So what is next in Pax's future?
Slacker: Well, Fal, to be honest we all just want to have fun.

โญ๏ธEditor's Note:
After the interview with Pax was complete, the following was received anonymously:The fall of PAX began when PAX started having issues with Tajik. PAX had a recruit, AMZ. Everyone liked him, but he was a bit too immature for TW. Since he was from Dubai, he was also close with Tajik. Now when AMZ came in as a recruit, PAX as an alliance had no issues with Tajik. They simply left him alone, like much of the TW community.
-
While AMZ was still in the recruit stage, he told Pimp and crew that he would be assisting Tajik with some fighting in Dubai. Pimp and crew were reluctant, however Pimp ok'ed it. He told AMZ that Pax would not come to his aide if the need were to arise whilst assisting Tajik. Amidst AMZ assisting Tajik, PAX were working on an alliance wide project; a hop to Guerrero Negro, Mexico. Roughly 600 miles south of Tijuana. What the TW community now knows as the 'NGC Garden'. Now, I'll be honest, I cannot remember why, but AMZ ruffled some feathers in PAX while assisting Tajik. Really ruffled them. Most members wanted to cap him out of Mexico, to send him a message. Pimp deliberated the move with all members. Someone in PAX was leaking info to Tajik, and Tajik got word of the possible attack.
-
Tajik spoke with Pimp, saying that if any attack was made on AMZ, he would be forced to retaliate, that he would single-handedly cause PAX to fall. They tried to talk it out, to no avail. One day, when Pimp was in one of his 'fuck it' moods, after a meeting, he gave the ok for PAX members to cap AMZ out of Mexico. MEXICO only. He was capped out of Mexico, however a few...rebels, decided to cap him elsewhere, in the states. As he had said, Tajik responded.
Word spread that he was preparing to attack. PAX formed V's, shuffled things around. The biggest focus was in LA and Chicago, where Tajik held the most turf. It was an organized, well thought out plan, but this was Tajik. Only Havoc's pockets came close to the depth of Tajik's. PAX couldn't keep up.
-
Amidst the fighting, a certain PAX members told others that Pimp had sold the group out to Tajik. Meaning that Pimp leaked screenshots, gave out vital info, etc. and by doing so, Tajik never capped Pimp. He never lost a single turf to Tajik during the scuffle. After Pimp was called out, 90% of the PAX membership turned on Pimp. The fighting against Tajik ceased, and began on Pimp. Most ex-PAX joined the fight against Pimp, however some did not, instead electing to go their own ways. Over 400 SS of info were shared, of conversations between Pimp and Tajik, also of Tajik between AMZ, and other members between Pimp. My opinion? I will not share, because it's not the favored opinion. All I will say is, Pimp got pimped.

Self Help 101
Hopping
Many new players question how vets get to so many different locations. They have "hopped" into these locations. Sure, if you are "in" an airport, you can "fly" to a new location. However, most off us do not start off in airports, therefore we need to hop to them. Hopping is quite simple. Plant your turf and build it up to 86 influence. Next hit the little "+" symbol at the top of the map screen. This will generate a green circle. Choose which way you want to hop and plant a turf on that outermost edge. Build it up to 86 influence and repeat the process. -
Once you run out of turf to plant, go back and tear the first ones down. DO NOT TEAR DOWN YOUR LEAD TURF, or you will be starting all over again. Police Maps, which are looted from running missions, are very helpful when you come to a smaller body of water you can't cross with one hop or if you hit a "dead area" (when TW tells you "invalid turf location"). They increase the building radius from your existing turf. To use a police map, simply build your turf up to 135 influence and on your turf screen, hit the "use item" button. Choose your police map. (You may use up to 4 on a single turf). Once police maps are used, you cannot reuse them and your building radius goes back to normal.
Next weeks lesson: Why we don't cap inactive players.
Happy Turfing!

Elliot Speaks Up
Turf Tales News caught up with Elliot-s earlier this week to discuss his recent departure from the Madhitmen alliance.
FAL: Can you tell us why you left the Madhitmen?
Elliot: There is no โbadโ reason. There was no incident or drama that resulted in my departure. They are all great people, great friends and I felt really bad leaving. But it just didnโt feel right to me.
FAL: Can you elaborate? What didnโt fit?
-
Elliot: I guess I was looking for a specific type of action, which in all honestly probably doesnโt exist anymore. The only fight I could see on the horizon would be Munich, which I just couldnโt get excited about. I like being the underdog. I also thought I was a bit of a liability. It is no secret that I have been having some fun with Saba, blowing up random cities. It didnโt seem fair to me to bring unnecessary drama to the Madhitmen just because I was bored and looking for some trouble, haha.
FAL: You mentioned being bored โ are you bored with the game?
-
Elliot: Probably for the past 12 months. I just keep hanging around, expecting things to change. I left TWFC to fight with CMS, but they all seemed to burn out. Now I guess I am the one that is burned out. I fought a lot last year, but this year itโs just been coasting. I even sold my tommy guns.
FAL: So whatโs next then?
Elliot: I really donโt know. Any suggestions news man? Lol. I debated starting a small group, but what would we do? And is that even what I am looking for? Probably not. I used to like capping everyone, everywhere, but now my time is more limited
-
FAL: Any last comments?
Elliot: Just to reiterate that Madhitmen are a great group. They all welcomed me right away and made me feel at home. I think for now I just need a bit of time to figure out my future. See where the game is at in the near future and figure out what I want to do.

An Odd Note
Yesterday, as I sat staring at my computer screen, I pondered some possible news articles. After a few minutes of zoning out, I noticed the unmistakable yellow blinking โPโ on my tool bar. There were some unread messages on palringo. I opened the palringo window to see if there was anything of interest. I had one new PM. Hmm, from a name I donโt recognize. I opened the message.-----------
We have been watching.
The tides of change are amongst us. Which will be the first to break.
All wars end. True warriors fight with no impunity.
The giants of the west are strong, but soon you will discover the beasts within you. All stars lose their flames and monsters show their real stripes.
We are not an alliance. We are an idea. We exist amongst you. We exist within you.
We are here to watch it burn.....
We are WEAPON.
-
The player name was โThe Speakerโ, a name I have never heard before. I sent a number of replies, but after sending the original message, The Speaker would not reply. I conducted a search in Turf Wars โ no results. At this point, all I can ask is, does anyone recognize this play?

The Rumor Mill
Toughguy sheds his stars
Well known fighter Toughguy left The Turf Wars Stars Alliance earlier this week. His departure comes after only a short stint with the stars since leaving another perennial alliance, The Commission. TG is also a former PAX member as well.
The departure is rumored to have been on bad terms, with a number of Vendettas having been placed on TG by his former alliance mates this past week. Sources close to the action have confirmed that whatever the issues were, they have now been resolved between TG and the TW Stars.

What's going on with CMS?
From a questionable source:
"There's whisper rumors of CMS mass resetting as a show of solidarity for DAS' banning along with the combined snubbing (in their eyes) by nick in regards to not listening to their complaints on range and several other key items. I don't know if its a def or of there's a date set but if you look at their profiles, it's obvious they are inactive and it wouldn't take much at this point to just hit the button.โ
Where is Saba?
There is an odd silence as turfers watch and wait for the next bomb to go off. Saba has been on the radar lately, after causing chaos in Disney and the Philadelphia over the past few weeks. When asked "what's next?" Saba replied "I can't cap anywhere without people thinking I'm up to something more than just doing some generic cappingโ

One Month Check In
Well it has been one month โ 4 issues. I feel it is worth taking a moment to check in with the community.
When I started the publication, I wanted each issue to contain a rough format โ an interview, a war story, and alliance news / updates. Wrapping this core are the classifieds and, my personal favourite, the Rumor Mill.
I have been very fortunate to have help from many different players. M@d has helped me greatly becoming a writer that I can count on to deliver articles (good ones!) every week. Mrs. VW has also be very helpful in adding a section for newer players looking for tips. I have also had immense help from the community in responding to my questions or inquiries for articles. You know who you are โ and I thank you. -
So โ at this point, I am asking the community, what do you like? What do you dislike? Please respond to this thread and provide feed back. Is there something I am missing? Certain stories you want investigated? Is the news to allianced focused? Do you prefer more in-depth articles (for example the TWFC article) or shorter, more punchier articles?
This has always been meant to be for the community and BY the community. As long as players are willing to share their stories and accomplishments, I will run the news. So please, reach out to me if you have something to share.

๐ Another great read guys. Keep it up!
-
Another great read Fall. I guess reading with coffee is just as easy as reading on the Crapper ๐. I personally like the interviews/history of different players and alliances. Oh and maybe a new feature what is Saba up to NOW.
