My friend has a friend that hates Breaking Bad. With a passion. Hates it. In her view it glamorizes meth and drugs. That it makes meth and selling drugs "cool" and like it's no big deal. I tried explaining that BB definitely did not glamorize meth and that it tore apart everyone that it touched in the show.
What's your guys opinion? Made meth look cool and hip?
Or presented a grim view of how it can destroy lives? -
It showed how it destroyed lives and family's

I think watching the WHOLE series will help a person see what they WANT to see...
For me...I saw a guy go from wanting to support his family to really liking the notion of being 'Heisenberg' to understanding what he became to protecting the only thing he wanted ( money ) to ending the run by trusting his friend ( who failed ) to end it.
I hate the people who say 'I'll never do that' but really, is that true? Yeah, maybe. Then again, face cancer and the truth you won't live long... Then look in the mirror. -
Was total destruction, of both innocent and the involved. Definitely did not glamorize it. Sure there were moments with pallets/barrels of cash that seemed to come "easy", but was very temporary. I would agree that it avoided the impact to the mass of users with the exception of Jessie and his girlfriend. But it portrayed their use and downward spiral pretty dramatically.

Fact of the matter is that in media, there is no such thing as negative attention. It's all glamour, baby. You think 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom teach girls NOT to go out and get pregnant? And those shows are real, with real consequences.
The show could literally have every character use meth and die, and it would not be negative attention.

I won't watch breaking bad. Meth ruined my childhood, and as far as I know, breaking bad is about a school teacher that begins cooking for money. No sir, I lived it and it was shit.29 min agoDELETE

I just started watching BB. I just finished the first episode of Season 2. I love it so far. More to the point, so far I only see it showing a Grimm(😜) reality when dealing with such a drug. I look forward to seeing what's next 😃👍

It showed that drugs create nothing but horror. They can turn someone like Walt into a complete monster who destroys the lives of everyone. All the people who ended up using meth or any kind of drug were punished in some way. Jesse and his meth den, badger getting caught, jesses girlfriend, and of course tuco. I can't think of anyway that this show makes drugs look good in any way besides tearing apart the lives of anyone who was involved in anything.

Didn't turn our well for anyone - would put me off cooking ...
-
In Australia (and most other western countries) he wouldn't have needed to cook, we would have looked after him and his family....
-
Glamorizes meth? I don't think so. That's like saying The Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire glamorizes organized crime. Maybe you just don't like well written tv shows? The fact of the matter is these themes are reality. Walt doesn't come across as a hero. Next thing you're going to tell me is that Oz glamorized prison sex or that Spartacus glamorized owning slaves. Please!

This is why TV sucks so badly these days, people can no longer recognize a TV show for what it is supposed to be.... it's entertainment people. Did Welcome Back Cotter glamorize going to HS? Did Happy Days glamorize jumping shark tanks in Arnold's parking lot? Did Laverne and Shirley glamorize working in a brewery?

My thoughts too. A tv show is just that. While most things have a small impact on kids it will always come back to character of the people with what they do in their life. I just started watching it and like it, but I wouldn't go cook meth. That's a choice I made with or without the show, I just like watching it.This is why TV sucks so badly these days, people can no longer recognize a TV show for what it is supposed to be.... it's entertainment people. In agreement with viper, it's a drama and it's purpose was for entertainment, and it was pretty good entertainment!
-
Did she actually watch it? Or are these assumptions from little clips and a very basic knowledge of the show's premise?

Eh, I guess it could give someone an idea if their life isn't going the way they like, but the show doesn't glamorize anything.
