Cover Story - The Battle for Bradford / Leeds: a random back stab?
A well known and well liked TWFC player announced his return to the game in dramatic fashion. Approximately 4 weeks ago, 💩💩ᎡᏌᎠᏀᏓᏣᏌᎦ💩💩 opened up a new front in his hometown of Bradford/Leeds in the United Kingdom. The return of Rud and his Forum post acted as a rallying call for his allies, drawing many to the Bradford and Leeds area, which quickly developed into a mini stronghold (reminiscent of TWFC glory days passed) for their combined forces.
The response from what’s referred to as the “World Alliance” was expected. A combined force consisting of elements of the Stars, Capo,Texas Syndicate, and The Firm alliances, soon had the Bradford/Leeds area partially enveloped. The war lines were solid on both sides, with a mix of large, mid and low mobbed snipers. -
I was on site early, and must say this was the best effort put forth by what I call TWFC in sometime, especially in comparison to the recent invasion of areas such as London which was met with little resistance. For the first few days, Rud & crew outnumbered those present & active from the "World Alliance". The former TWFC rangers were extremely effective and kept many from advancing close to their battle line. Bennybadeyes and HASS were of particular note as were new comers to the fight FC St. Paulie & The Other Guy. Murder Mumma was also particularly effective, making World Alliance players pay every time they tried to or did manage to cap into the TWFC lines. Larger players such as Rudglous formed the centre of the TWFC lines, capping anyone who got too close. Meanwhile Bomp, Gameplan, Bugsy1 & Shaggly Razors caused chaos on the outskirts, capping anyone and everyone within range. Hop trails quickly turned hands as these players took advantage of those rushing to the battlefield.
-
As the battle raged on into the weeks following the first shots, momentum shifted to the "World Alliance" as reinforcements arrived on a regular basis. Credit is given to ★SPYИDLΞ★for excellent coordination. Her ability to examine the map, use her range to push back the enemy, and tap players to move up played a significant role. By the start of week 3, the World Alliance controlled the North, East, West and were slowly squeezing the battle lines in on Rud & crew. Having been effectively neutralize by enemy rangers, I focused the majority of my energy on capping enemy players on the western and southern outskirts, while our rangers tightened the enemy lines into a ball. By the end of week 3, the arrival of large allied players such as Zoom and Toughguy had made a significant impact. Out-numbered and out gunned, it was my opinion that despite an extremely valiant effort, that the end was in sight.
-
What happened next was a total shock. Randombloke suddenly appeared on the TWFC. The World Alliance response was to adjust V’s to target Random in anticipation to him joining the Fray. Random is a 80k Mob beast of a player & notable salty war veteran from many fights from across the globe. He proceeded to set up, cover and flooded the cluster held and fortified over the weeks of bitter fighting from Rud and friends. It appeared that this could be a significant game changer in favour of TWFC & affiliates.
A closer inspection revealed a shocking different reality story. Random didn’t spam the lines, he capped the lines. In what has been labeled as the Random Back Stab, Bloke proceeded to completely destroy his former allies. Acting on the confusion, World Alliance players proceed to cap the remaining enemy, drawing a close the Battle for Bradford. Turf Tales caught up with leaders from both sides to discuss the aftermath. -
FAL: The battle for Bradford was a spirited fight. I enjoyed it and was happy to see a fight that appeared to matter to both sides. What where your first thoughts as the battle began?
Spy: I was very impressed with the enemy. I was shocked with their turn out and support as well. They fought effectively and did well mixing their mob sizes. Cooperation on our side was a little slow at first. Once the ball got rolling and the war rust was knocked off, we came around in fine form.
Rud: It was going to be a hard battle, and we knew this. We expect to be outnumbered. At the beginning it was fair, but as more enemy players arrive we saw it was going to be difficult to gain any map space. That being said, I was overwhelmed with the amount of players that showed up, without even being asked, to help me.
FAL: Any special mentions on team mate performance? Who impressed you from your side? -
Spy: Big props to some of the smaller mobbed rangers on both sides. PowerStroke and Eluzion from my team were very effective. From the enemy side, I also thought FC St. Paulie & The Other Guy earned top notch points in my books. Cheers to Fubar, The Greek and Decide for coming to support us. I had never fought with them before, but felt they quickly fit in.
Rud: Special mention has to go to Bomp and The Other Guy. They truly put some serious effort in. Players that are always around to heal/cap/help will always get my respect and praise.
FAL: The way the fight ended was very disappointing to me. It felt like a cheap win. What did you guys think of the way the battle concluded?
Spy: For lack of a better word, I think it was Lame. I feel like I missed out on the thrill of earning a victory. I am also annoyed that for those players new to large scale wars, they did not get the proper education on how these battles typically draw to conclusion. -
Rud: We had heard rumors that concerning Random’s account, but we just didn’t believe that such a huge influence play from the old TWFC camp could possibly cap his own. Could he? We just waited to see what would happen..... then we got our answer. Although nothing really surprises me anymore, it was a true shock. All you can do is pick up and move on.
Conclusions:
The Battle of Bradford will surely go down as one shrouded in controversy. Following the battle, Randombloke’s account was reset, adding to the controversy and rumors surrounding his supposed back stab. While this author cannot confirm or deny any of the rumors, I can confidently state that the final days of Randombloke and ultimately his ending, is an unsatisfying. Random deserved an ending fitting of his illustrious TW career. Running parallel is the underlying feeling that Bradford ended abruptly and in a manner that robbed either side of a true victory.

Life Beyond The Reset: An Interview with HAVOC (now known as COVAH)
Few players garnered the fear and respect that was paid to Havoc during his reign as the games largest player. I never had the joy of fighting with Havoc, but I did enjoy reading the posts and hearing the rumors of his battles on the map. Most notably was his invasion to open the Dubai Airport, and the rivalry with Tajik that would follow.
It was with great shock when I heard the news that Havoc had reset. Waking up on October 12, 2012, it became a reality – Havoc had posted his retirement thread. The games largest player had decided to walk away. Turf Tales caught up with Havoc to discuss his retirement. -
FAL: When I looked up your retirement thread, I was shocked to see it has almost been a year. What have you been up to in that time?
Hav: I am an all or nothing kind of guy. When I played TW, it was full time. Day or night, it didn’t matter; I was always ready to fight. When it was my time to go, I pulled the plug. Now I am just focused on family and business and just don’t have the time to focus on TW like I did in the past.
FAL: You made reference in your retirement thread about needing to deal with a real life issue. Is there anything you can to share about that? Any regrets about the reset?
Hav: I had neglected my family and business in my pursuit of the game. Just like gambling and other addictions, TW can consume your life. TW was consuming mine. I had to quit. Quiting cold turkey was the only way. No regrets at all. -
FAL: After your reset, you returned to the game as COVAH, a micro mobbed (4k) sniper. In South Korea, you were extremely effective, using both low cap limit and extensive range to pick apart team Saba. Did you enjoy playing as a 4k micro mob? What’s more enjoyable – being the games largest player, or smallest play?
Hav: Yes, I did return to the game with COVAH, my micro sniper. My return and what kept me going were the friendships in the game. I wanted to keep in touch with my friends. It was a lot of fun sniping in SK. When you are the largest player in the game, everyone can snipe you and you can snipe no one, so it was a great change of perspective. Being large has its advantages, no doubt. But if you don’t care and can’t spend tons of time, then small is the way to go. Mid size is probably the best. Look at Addi, she’s been 20k for years and is basically still the most skilled player out there of any size. -
FAL: I have not seen you since the South Korea games. Not on the map or on Pal. Are you done with TW? Conversely, at the time that I quit Global Supremacy, you were at the top of the leader boards. Is GS your new addiction?
Hav: No, GS sucks. Sorry, but it’s true. Clunky, expensive, too restricted. I still goof around with it but that’s about it. As far as TW goes, I was having fun in SK but I think I pissed of the opposition because the “ol Hav” kicked back in – relentless haha. So I backed off, quit those games and have again turned all my attention to work and home.
FAL: You have been involved in so many battles. Which was your most memorable? Can you give us a brief overview? -
Hav: I think, like most players, my most memorable battles occurred in the early days. I look back on the battles, when it was LAW and CMS versus me alone and a couple of locals. The big battles in South Carolina were epic. The LAW group invaded my home town countless times. They’d occupy it for a day or two and then we would take it back. When Putz hopped down and tried to defeat me here, we drove him bankrupt. Some of my favorite “smash and bash” battles were the taking of Philadelphia and Richmond from from LAW, and San Francisco from Das Hyena and CMS. Others included Berlin (twice) from Shaggly Razors and TWFC. Also Edinburg and the fight in OZ are particularily me moveable. There are too many battles to cover, so many memories.
When Tajik showed up on the scene, he was able to catch me off guard in Amsterdam. I had to hop back to Ams from Paris and my team and I wiped him out. -
The last big epic battle, which truly seemed to last forever, was Edinburg. It ground down to basically a stalemate for the longest time. I couldn’t seem to have much of an impact because I was constantly targeted by stacks of Vendettas. After a few months, the opposition missed a two hour window where some V’s expired. I hopped over the whole city during this period when no one could cap me, and 24 hours later I capped over 1000 turf. I capped for hours.
Of course none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for great team mates. Addi and Bugs Bunny I owe everything too. They are the greatest teammates a person could ask for. They are also great friends as well. There are so many other great teammates on TW, I can’t mention them all. So many deserve so much credit for our victories. -

FAL: You area always very sure to credit Bugs and Addi, who are in my opinion two of the best players around. Addi is, in my experience, one of the finest strategists and thinkers around. Her opinion on matters is rarely overlooked. Bugs on the other hand, is just an absolute terror on the map. Yet it was referred to as "Hav fam". Do you think you over shadowed the rest of the stars during your time?
Hav: Well, I was the biggest mob, so perhaps I was the easiest target in order to label the rest. The truth is, I learned the game from those two. Addi taught me how to strategize. Back in the day before Bugs and I were allies, she use to terrorize me. She taught me how to be a beast.
FAL: You specifically mentioned Tajik earlier. I was not part of the wars during his time, but from an outsider looking in, it seemed that he was a player that matched you on map. The rivalry seemed real. How good was he? -
Hav: My match? I wouldn’t say that. Tajik could match me in spending, but he and all his mules could never beat our team. Tajik had his moment in the limelight, but it was relatively short. I think there is a list of players ahead of him in terms of the ranking of “legends that played the game”.
FAL: Are there any players in particular you would like to mention?
Hav: There are some really great players out there; many of them are still around. Some of my favorite battles were against players such as Beim Saufen, Bone Crusher, Das, Midnite, Xambler, and Jake from the CMS crew. Others, such as Shaggly Razors, Vadan, Odyssesus and Smasher from TWFC deserve mention. So many great allies as well, such as BAS, Ickle Mobster, Med, Rhino and Silent Joe from DBR, Tallyho and Shapp from Borg, and of course Addi, Bugs and Johnny O from our side. There are also great new guys like Brooklyn, and all the new stars out there continuing the legacy of my old crew. -
FAL: You spent a few bucks on TW. Now that you have quit, do any new hobbies to consume your disposable income?
Hav: I am working on a semi-portable earth to orbit launch vehicle. The paint alone for the left stabilizer costs more than I spent on TW. So that’s got me kinda tied down. Everyone needs hobbies haha.
FAL: I’ve heard you referred to as “the wallet” before. Lol. Care to share what you spent on the game?
Hav: Haha, lets leave it at this. Over 10k, under 30k. I’ll leave the rest to the imagination. -
FAL: Will we see Havoc back anytime soon?
Hav: I made Saba a promise that I’d return as soon as his doctors tell him his hormone therapy is a complete success. Lol. In all serious, I felt I left at the right time. Nothing beats leaving on top. In the end, it was a fun game that created lasting friendships. For that I am always thankful, even if I am not active on the map.-FAL

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Elbows and USA of the alliance NGC. I wanted to get a look at the alliance from the inside out and help the Turf Wars community get to know them better. As you will ready they are a great upcoming alliance celebrating there year anniversary very soon. Let’s all congratulate them on their year accomplishment.
What does NGC stand for?
Elbows and USA - Nincompoops Gone Crazy
How did you come up with that?
Elbows - I heard it on a police scanner one night at work and just fit us crazy nincompoops. -
Your alliance birth or creation, how that come about?
Elbows - After pax split about a year ago, some of us were unsure about what to do however myself USA and m2 said we would stay together, We had several offers from larger alliances but none seem to fit us.
USA - We were recruiting class into pax together, and already had a bond.
How many came over from pax?
Elbows - At first 6 but since our merger with MTC we have a couple more.
Tell me a little about the merger.
USA – We were just like minded people and already friends, just seems the natural progression of things.
Elbows – MTC was another alliance that Susan and some other great peeps were part of.
Do you know your year anniversary?
USA – OCT 4th -
So what would you say holds you together?
USA – Our love for the game - we think alike, have similar goals set, and they are all great people!
Can you explain your government a bit and how things work?
Elbows - All depends what's going on, every member has a say. When war breaks out I might get a little bossy, I like to have everyone on the same page and try to be very organized.
Is there a leader or like a group of leaders?
Elbows – Myself, USA, Susan MTC, m2 and Norman are the leaders
What would you say is your greats TW accomplishment?
USA - NGC moves as one (short pause) Brizz got evicted twice.
Elbows - Mecca was fun ...defending gardens several times, lately removing sin and shaggy from the USA. We have built a couple gardens around the world that I think are pretty neat. -
Who do you want to fight but just can't and why would you want to fight them?
USA - We don't bother anybody ---- We protect ours and our friends!!!
Elbows – 😶
In an ever changing game where do you see things going?
USA - Sky's the limit, we got hard workers, that do right by others, great group of recruits upcoming.
Elbows - It's hard to say eventually things will change, with a lot of alliances teaming up.
Do you feel you rank alongside the top alliances in the game?
Elbows - We are good at what we do.
That is?
Elbows – Gardens, road blocks, defending the little peeps! We can hold our own!!!
On the subject of evicting shags and sin, are u guys primarily defensive minded? Or do you now count yourselves part of the world wide fights or wars? -
Elbows – Yes sir we are defensive minded, sin came to one of our gardens and said we owed him. I DON’T THINK SO!!! He started capping our members so we responded. He also called Susan a B****
USA – This is when sin said he was “retired”.
Elbows – A couple of us got tired of Shaggly capping us and tearing down, so we went at him.
So you respond when you need to but don’t seek fights?
Elbows and USA – YES SIR!!!
Any last words anything you would like to say?
USA - Our close allies are M@DHITMEN anyone messes with them messes with us!M@D

Cracka: an autobiography
As a new player in December 2009 I was very quiet. My town had myself and two other players in it. The two other players were reset for cheating and I was left to be alone in my hometown. I made my first forum post saying 'All Alone...' Or something like that, stating I was the last player in my town.
At the time I never thought my town would get populated by any turf and thought TW as another passing game to play and forget. After which I continued to run missions and plant random turf accomplishing nothing and staying quiet. I remember trying to get involved in an alliance at one point as a new player that Davey Boy aka !Rogue was a part of. I didn't take the game very seriously at the time so I never followed through with it.
