Anyone know why my PS3 wont read any discs?
I got GTA5 and after a couple of hours play the game froze. I restarted the system but the game wouldnt work. I tried other games & dvds and found the console wont read any discs. The console seems to be fine other than that.
I reset the system and got a laser lens cleaner but none of that worked. Is the system completely fucked or can I get it fixed? Its way out of warranty as its a few years old.
Im guessing its just died. Any advice?
Thanks- dml. -
My xbox has a similar problem. It won't read the disc unless I open and close the disc tray a lot of times. The disc reader is probably just getting old and needs to be replaced.

Do something to test it real quick. Put in a regular DVD (not a Bluray) and see if it plays it fine. If it does, then your Bluray reader has burnt out. It happened to mine and I had to replace the reader mechanism. Nothing too difficult

I'd say about $20 just for the piece. There are plenty of videos on YouTube explaining how to do it. As for getting someone to do it for you, that's up to you to find. Shouldn't be too hardJajaja wrote:

That happens to all game systems eventually. The reader usually dies first. Except with XBox because they usually overheat because of the crappy fan installed. Doesn't happen to PC, everything dies at once for them 😂😂😂

i'm not buying anymore disc based games. i'll wait for it to hit the psn and download it. i'm down with optical media.

Thanks all, it was the disc reader that had burned out. It cost €70 to get repaired. Finally can start GTA-V now!!

The blue ray on my PS3 burned out after about 3 years as well. There are ways to replace it yourself, but i bit the big bullet and sent it to sony. If there is a Sony store near you, its faster then snail mail.
