What has humanity come to?
Forums › General Discussion › What has humanity come to?-
I was heading back to college this morning after spending the weekend visiting my dad. I was about 15 minutes away from school when I notice a wreck that involved 1 car running a stop sign which caused the accident and then the car that ran the stop sign flipped into a ditch. This occurred right off the highway on the service road and I know MANY people saw it happen.
-
The part that got me was that I was literally the only person passing by that went out of my way and stopped to see if everyone was ok and give my statement as a witness. Now had it have just been a little fender bender I would've went on my marry way and left the decisions up to the authorities but the poor kid fell asleep at the wheel and flipped into a ditch. I was just shocked I was the only person willing to miss whatever it was that I had planned/scheduled and see if these two people were ok. The people were fine but both cars were totaled.

Humanity disgusts me. I can almost guarantee at least one of the people that didn't stop thought to themselves "haha! Sucks to be you."

The United States is very individualist culture. You wouldn't see this kind of behavior in a collective culture.

It depends how bad it looked... If it was a real mess I would be straight over but if it didn't look too bad I honestly think I would be on the 'sucks to be you' side

Yea I know what I would need to do were the incident more serious. I've got my CPR certification, I've taken a first responders course, and also I'm a pre medicine student at my university. The thing is you can look at this one of two ways. Maybe they didn't know what to do or had already pending emergencies to tend to. However, when I saw the wreck I was a good ways away. About 15 cars passed them. Once I got there hundreds more passed. It was off the highway right before you can hop onto the interstate. People didn't hesitate to laugh and take pictures while passing or while stopped at the red light. They treated it like it was a joke.✂

Pre med at my university is just a way for them to classify several majors under one category and still call them all pre-med. mine is Biological Sciences in which I will never have to take a philosophy class. However, I do have to take two psychologies. But I would see having a firm understanding of human anatomy and physiology would be a good thing but if you don't feel it is we can omit that. However as previously states I've taken a first responder course and would know how to handle a victim with a broken neck. If his current position doesn't pose an immediate threat to his/her life you leave the individual alone and wait for an ambulance while you watch to see if their condition worsens. However if the person must be moved it's a multi person effort, preferably 3 or more people. The woman being shook up as she was would be little to no help. .

So had the young man needed to be moved in order to save his life I would either have to try it alone and potentially further harm/kill him, or sit and watch him die a slow death. That's why I'm complaining, knowing what to do doesn't cut it in that situation

Sounds like you're a complete asshole who would just drive right by and not give a fuck. At least that's the way you come across.🔰darkmagician🔰 wrote:

The fact is if this world wasn't slowly losing its compassion I wouldn't have to flag someone down. Now that we have managed to go full circle do you finally understand my point?🔰darkmagician🔰 wrote:

Here's a hint: quit making excuses for shitty behavior. Your negativity far outshines his. Sounds like you need classes in being human.🔰darkmagician🔰 wrote:

We're raised to avoid strangers and be an isolated being, out of every animal, humans isolate themselves from their own kind far more than anything else. We feel bad as would like to help but as alluvion stated, most people wouldn't know what to do in that situation. They're either just shocked or just wanna be one of those people that gather around after the cops arrive to see if people are ok instead of being the one giving the statement.

Last night on a roundabout,I saw that there was a car accident on my way home from work. There appeared to be a few people helping, but I couldn't stop as there were more cars behind me, nor would I have been of any practical help, plus the fact that I had my 5 year old in the car.Said a quick prayer and on reaching home rang the police. Reading the OP's thread, now makes me wonder if anybody thought the worse of me;made obscene pelvic thrusts at me,cursed or spat choice words of singular vulgarity at my departing car.
-
So just coincidentally I was the only car out of the 15 or so in front of me, and those behind me at the light before I turned to the service road all either had something better to so or couldn't help? I'm sorry but I missed one of my classes today and almost half of the other to be there to help in ANY way I could. If I was of no help I would be told that and be dismissed. No one even tried. That's the part that discourages me. I'm not a negative person, it's just that I know most of those people could've done something
-
Call me stupid or ignorant or whatever you please based on what I'm about to say. But I don't put anything in my life, aside from the lives of those I care about, over anyone's life. Whether I know them or not, I can't think of anything I could've been doing aside from rushing a family member to the hospital for emergency treatment or because my wife is in labor that would make me not at least stop to see of the kid was ok. He couldn't get out of the car by himself I had to pull him out, as previously stated. So until I got down there and got the kid out no one knew for sure if he was alive, not even the lady that hit him, I was the only one that either cared enough to find out or I guess you could say I was simply man enough to take the initiative and try to save a life. Idk about you primo but I wasn't raised to be separate, and I wasn't raised to like strangers. I know this is going to sound lame but I grew up with a love for my country and those that love in it. That's why I would stop no matter what.

Where I live almost EVERYONE stops for snapping turtles. Half of them drag it off the road so it don't get run over and the other half take it home for dinner. We're a compassionate people.

Yea same here. I know so many people that go out of their way to stop for animals in the road or will stop and pick up a stray animal because they feel sorry for it. I had the same thing happen to me 2 years ago when my fiancé and I had gotten into a wreck with a semi. It was a head on and the semis fault. My head got bashed into the metal framework for the window and I was knocked unconscious. My fiancé told me many people walked and drove by. Only stopping to take a quick picture of my incapacitated form in the passenger seat. I nearly died that night from a combination of bleeding out from my head, concussion, and shock. 🙎🔫.🔪🚶⬅ Thats what I'd like to do to all those people who I entertained on their way to work with my sever injuries and life ruining wreck.
