LASIK surgery

Getting both eyes done today. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. No more glasses for the first time in over 30 years. Has anybody else had this procedure?
-
Never had it, but always wonder about it. Dont know anyone who has had it done, so be sure to tell the tale! Personally it kinda terrifies me!
-
No, however I am interested. I hear nothing but great things. Congrats and good luck! 👀👍

Good luck!!

My wife was almost blind I use to say and she had it done 15 years ago and just now she may need reading glasses after 15 years of 20/20. 👍
I had bought shares in the company back then... But they changed name and I sold them to a small profit. -
Before LASIK I was 20/750. Since, I'm 20/40 and have been for around 10 years.
-
Once you hit 40 you'll still need reading glasses if you are near sighted. It degrades your close up vision quicker with LASIK.
-
I had it done quite a few years ago . Brilliant no pain . Perfect vision . Back to work next morning . Although as others say now I'm getting a little longsighted. You probably get what you pay for so wouldn't go cheap . I paid extra for bevel edge laser cuts rather than the keratome knife .
-
Interestingly the flap never heals shut just the suction holds it closed . I had a reblast it was horrible when the guy was picking at your eye with a little hook to lift the flap up .
-
My father had this procedure and within a couple years, things reverted.
I can't tell you how terrified I am of lasers or fingers working on MY eyes. I think I'll keep my glasses.

Myself, my wife & my mom all have loved it. My wife was under corrected the first time so she had to have it redone. She still said she would do it all over again in a second.
-
I've been home for awhile now. Things are a little blurry as they said it would be. Things went just fine. I have to go in tomorrow for a checkup to make sure all is well. I was told that since I'm over 40 I'll probably need reading glasses. I consider that better than glasses all the time.

Sounds cool thing to get I hate contact lenses

I had the surgery done when I was 19, such a blessing to have this kind of technology now. I'm 25 now and I'm so thankful I had it done, it was life changing!
🍷😉👍 -
I've known my best friend since we were in the 2nd grade....as long as I've known him he had a pretty thick Rx....he had the LASIK done 6 months ago, & he has no need for glasses now. Btw we're 39yrs old now.....

I had lasik done 2 months ago. I had been wearing glasses for 50 years and had moved to progressive lenses...an annoyance when working on cars. Rather than having both eyes set to far and needing reading glasses to see my iPhone I went monovision using ilasik. Took a month for the near vision eye to stabilize...now I can read the small print in clash of clans fine. Long distance comes and goes. Getting better but you lose some definition when you only have one eye to focus with. Walking through Home Depot was scary for a while. Driving home in the dark and fog up the narrow mountain road gets your heart racing :)
It can take 3 to 6 months to heal and get over the focusing issues...the monovision took a bit getting used to as well.
The flap heals, btw, but has only 3% of original strength. What the alarmists don't tell you is that is plenty enough...any blow strong enough to dislodge that will hurt the eye in either case. Dry eye is real so keep putting eyedrops in. And go out and get a good pair of costas!

Oh. And I have never been able to put things like contacts in my eyes...I had to have the eye doctor put monovision test lens in and then a week later take them out. That worried me about having the surgery done but luckily they give you Valium and the good lasik surgeons use instruments that automatically track your eye movement while the laser is zapping away. Takes about 5 minutes per eye. Costs about 4000 for both eyes for the high end eye surgeons. You can go cheaper but often those low costs you see advertised are a starting at price. I had my severe astigmatism fully corrected as well so don't know if that added to cost. Takes a couple of weeks to test and map your eyes and then verify that monovision will work. Some pain for a day afterwards but I slept through most of it. Valium was nice :)

Good luck DR
Does this mean you'll be able to see our turfs easier to cap them? Lol -
I had it in 2006, I'm so happy I did too. I was at the point I was gonna have to get a "must wear corrective lenses while operating vehicle" stamp on my Licence. Had mine done at Pacific Eye Care aka Cal.State Berkeley. The next morning I went to my eye dr. for the aftercare exam, I was and have stayed at 20/15 in both eyes. I can see and read in the dark! I can see faces better! I can see individual leaves on a tree accross the street from me. So glad I did it.

My LASIK cost 3.5k per eye but I also recieved a City/County employee discount, I think it would have been 4k each eye also. The computer does all the work, tracking your eye movement. My right eye took 26 seconds under the lazer, left eye took 34 seconds. My friend watched in the moniter in the waiting room as it was happening. The Valium they gave me didn't do much, and I'm a major light weight. But when I got home I did sleep the rest of the day and night. They told me not to watch TV for a week? Maybe 2, and wear sunglasses outside. Some other instructions I don't remember also.

Surgery went great. I got Wednesday and just rested and kept eyes closed as much as possible. The right eye I can see perfect out of but the left eye is a little blurry still. They said that is normal and should go away.
-
It is great being able to see without glasses. I've found myself reaching for them a couple times. Hard habit to break after 30 years of wearing them.

My LASIK was great for about six years, but then my long distance and night vision began to deteriorate. It's still better than it was presurgery without glasses but I squint a lot. Probably need to get it redone.
-
My LASIK was great for about four years and then a total disaster. The long time under the laser (I was extremely nearsighted) that was required to correct my vision basically accelerated the formation of cataracts, which required surgery. The first surgery resulted in a puckered retina, which is like a fold in your visual field... Makes straight lines just a memory. Then I developed a detached retina in the "good" eye... More surgery... Lens removed in the process. I now wear glasses AND a contact lens (to simulate the lens that was removed). Buyer beware.

You gotta take risks in life or it will suck
