8th grade algebra slope equation y mx b ...... Explain please!!

Y=mx+b. M is coefficient of X. The higher it is, the steeper your slope. B just moves you up or down from the x-axis. Need more?

If b is minus 2, you move 2 down from the x-axis AT the y-int.

He did say it moves you UP or DOWN from the x-axis.. so he is correct vertical (up and down) axis is the y axis.

I passed algebra with a 92% but I don't remember much, so I cant help you there.

B = Y Intercept
M = Slope (rise/run)
Then you have whatever your x n y values are. -
I'm in algebra 2 GP/CP.
If they had an AP for freshman, I would be there.
Y = MX + B slope-intercept form
X - Xsub1 = M(Y - Ysub1) point-slope form
Use point slope when you are given a point (Xsub1, Ysub1) and slope (M).

•Slope formula:Ysub2 - Ysub1 Xsub2 - Xsub1
With any 2 points on the line you can find slope (M)

I used to think maths was important.. Now I'm 27 and find that all you need is simple addition/subtraction/divide/percentage knowledge.. The rest is bs and pointless. And ifmyoumfail at all of the above, get a calculator

Totally depends on what you end up doing. Much of that 'boring' schoolwork teaches you not only how to solve problems, but more importantly that they are solvable (ie I took number theory so know that you can determine what the last 6 numbers of 9^9^9^9 are even though at the moment I can only recall that I would need to use lambda functions).AmNeZ wrote: I used to think math was important.. As to using math in real life:
Engineering - you will use all your basics, plus statistics classes will give you a definite edge in life, as will number theory (mostly proofs and how to deal with complex math that can bring even todays computers to their knees) and chaos theory.
Programming - above plus algorithms courses to help you to better do those calculations (else fast CPUs breed sloppy code). -
Why are we doing school work in TW. Go cap someone. Or take some turf.
