We have a language because we think, if we did not think there would be no need for a language because we would not convey our ideas, what I think anyway

I'd reckon so, because we would have to think to develop the language, however a language really does help because it gives you something to think in.CͣAͩNͩINE wrote:

it's been proven that apes think about what they are doing and their survival patterns, apes don't have a language, humans developed from apes therefore I believe that language developed from thought

Body language plays an enormous part in how we communicate, as do pictures. We developed thought that prompted us to communicate more through gestures and drawings which developed our brains further and thus allowed us to eventually develop language. Q.E.D

We think without language and we have language because of vocal cords and sight. I'm sure blind deaf people still think of something.

Helen Keller would be a good case study to look into to prove that theory. We think without language and we have language because of vocal cords and sight. I'm sure blind deaf people still think of something.

I'm with canine on this one, thoughts came before language...

I'm pretty sure that apes and dolphins do have language. Just like you can't understand a remote lost tribe in Papua New Guinea, their language has not been learnt by humans. But I'm pretty sure they can understand each other.it's been proven that apes think about what they are doing and their survival patterns, apes don't have a language, humans developed from apes therefore I believe that language developed from thought

Every species that lives in a social group communicates. Sonar, scent, noises, movements, all forms of communication. Ants, bats, dogs, mice, apes dolphins, whales, fish all have a form of communicating. Oh and apes have a very advanced vocal form of communicating, so I would say yes they do have a language. This question is too philosophical for me to answer yes or no. Orginisms were communicating long before there was any cognitive thought process involved. Does a tree think? Do they talk?MͣAͩUͩLER wrote:

Research has shown even fauna to shrink away from threats to themselves. That's defence and a form of communication. We have never unraveled how other species etc communicate. And to what degree but they definitely do in my opinion. Glad I had a notification. I enjoy this stuff.

I think I thought about it ,but i don't have the thoughts to put it into words

Actually, we developed WITH apes, not from them. Those aren't the same apes & monkeys humans evolved from. We just share a very distant primate ancestor.it's been proven that apes think about what they are doing and their survival patterns, apes don't have a language, humans developed from apes therefore I believe that language developed from thought

I have my own language when I'm hammered. I communicate well with other drunks.

I have seen research that states that plants do communicate. In one experiment they plugged them up to a polygraph machine to see if they in fact had emotion and thus thought. Interesting findings. Also another study suggest that they communicate using a network of underground fungi. -
So. If someone moves to a different country, and learns their language, do they still think in their native language?

All language is, is a way to speak our thoughts. When you do a task with just yourself you don't need to talk in your head to do it.
-
We have language because we think.
Thinking can exist without language, language would be nothing without thought.
Language is for communicating thoughts. -

Smokey's right. An experiment was conducted on 2 separate groups of trees that were divided by a hill and about a mile apart. Various stresses were introduced to one group and the control group responded as if the stresses had been applied directly to them. It was concluded that the mycelium network in the soil that covered all the area of ground between the 2 groups of trees acted as a complex communication network.⌖🔥ཧ़ཀंེབ།༨ཛყ🔥⌖ wrote:

And another thought, do computers "think" or are they told what to say?
