You can actually hurt yourself on that thing. It doesn't mimick natural movement, and it doesn't force your core to stabilize the weight. It does it for you.Smith machine is absolutely utilized as a Squat rack, keeps your form straight and you can concentrate on better movement!!

Though I will use a smith machine if I'm benching a lot of weight and there's no spotter around. There's no alternative to the traditional though.

The only way you can hurt yourself is by not lifting properly, and yes it does force your core to stabilize during the lify, you actually can lift more weight. where do you get your info from lol★ICΞPICKʘЯTΞGΛ★ wrote:

Actually, you're both correct. While the smith machine allows you to lift more, and pretty much forces you to a specific range of motion, it doesn't fully activate the stabilizer muscles like free weights do. Not to say a smith machine is bad, as I use it occasionally, but free weights do make you work harder.

Agree Shadow, free weights are by far the best way to go, but hammer strength has really made using a machine much easier with their line of equipment.Actually, you're both correct. Thing is, planet fitness isn't for those that are trying to gain lots of mass. It's not even technically a gym. It's more for older and out of shape individuals to work to better their health. I'm pretty sure no real gym offers bagels and pizza.

I like planet fitness. go to the one in brooklyn NY. never heard the alarm. people are courteous and wipe their shit down. it's cheap and pretty clean. not bad.

Planet fitness sure as hell isnt like Animal house in Milwaukee but if you know your weights you can get some size and a really good workout, I for one have never seen bagels and Pizza at the one I am a member at. Talked to the owner about the alarm and he said they have only set it off once and an older lady on treadmill almost wiped out, said he would never set it off again..
