A judge in NYC declared stop and frisk illegal and racist. Also ordered the cops to be monitored.
I'm proud to say I'm from NY, and friend's with many of the NYPDs finest. I hear stories all the time of weapons they pulled off suspicious people and/or found out there was a warrant for their arrest. It would appear its been somewhat effective by NYCs lowest crime rate in a while.. But it's at the sacrifice of being stopped by the police.
Is safety worth it? What say you?

I thought your post was called add frisk and I got excited, until I realised there isn't a frisk code 😒
-
It also violates the 4th amendment. Unlawful search and seizure, blah, blah, blah.
-
How's my white Wall Street bankers are being stopped? I am sure that more than a few have a bit of white powder in their pockets or briefcases.
-
Bwtn 2004-2012 4.43 million stops in NYC, 52% were black suspects, 31% Hispanic suspects. Only of which 6% lead to an arrest. I guess it is worth it, if you are white and don't mind living in a police state that disreguards our constitution.
-
I really don't see the problem, if you don't have anything to hide then you shouldn't mind, it's not like they're bending you over for a cavity search is it?
-
Not sure where you are from, and you don't seem to have any USA turf, so you may not know. Unlawful search and seizure is a violation of our 4th admendent of our constitution. Our government and police don't have the right to stop me or ask for papers for no reason at all.
-
I'm from England.. What would be a sufficient reason to stop you? Personally if I'd consider it fair if a person was behaving suspiciously police should have a right to at least check for weapons... I'm no pro on your laws so if I'm getting the wrong idea just lemme know 👍

@parade, do the math and see how many arrests that has led to, how many illegal guns were taken off the street, think of how many crimes were stopped because of that. And yes I have been stooped for simply walking down the street. Yes it's a pain in the ass but it is for the overal good, and if ur so up in arms about them doing it, move, simple as that.
-
I'm almost certain that of the 52% "black" and 31% "hispanic" suspects nearly 100% of them looked like douche bags.
-
There's a few important facts we overlook.
Where is the most crime? In poverty stricken areas. FACT
What is the demographic of poverty stricken areas? Black and Hispanic. FACT
Knowing that, how would it be mathematically possible to arrest equal amounts of all ethnicities?
I'm NOT saying all black and Hispanic people commit crime.
There are shitty people in all races. But you can't argue factual numbers about the demographic of poverty stricken areas. -

I'm sure police agree with that, but you and I both look like homies. Does that mean we should be subject to random searches just because we fit a police officer's profile?

94% is over 3.8 million people stopped & harassed with no cause. Apparently you don't value the constitution.

No that just allows Congress to write laws enabling them to follow the constitution.Hyena wrote:

If they deviate from the constitution then the courts can strike those laws down and say they are not within the powers granted to the congress in the constitution.

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

I have never been stopped and harrassed by the cops. Of course I don't dress like a douche or carry myself as one so I never worry about getting stopped. Cops know who the problems are (and so do I) because they all fall into a profile. We all profile so if you say you don't you are lying to yourself. Hell the 2 biggest profiling racist pos's on the planet are Jesse Jackson and al sharpton. Now there are some racist fuckers right there, watch out for them not the cops.O U 8 1 2 wrote:

Between January 2004 and June 2012, the NYPD conducted over 4.4 million Terry stops.
In 52% of the 4.4 million stops, the person stopped was black, in 31% the person was Hispanic, and in 10% the person was white.
In 2010, New York City’s resident population was roughly 23% black, 29% Hispanic, and 33% white.
Weapons were seized in 1.0% of the stops of blacks, 1.1% of the stops of Hispanics, and 1.4% of the stops of whites.
Between 2004 and 2009, the percentage of stops where the officer failed to state a specific suspected crime rose from 1% to 36%.
More than 50% of all stops in 2011 cited "furtive movements" as a cause, which can include fidgeting, putting hands in pockets, and turning the other way when police are approaching.
It's bad law, and I'm glad it's gone.
