AR-15: Red Dot Question
Forums › General Discussion › AR-15: Red Dot Question-
Now that ammo is becoming more available, I am able to get back into shooting competitions again.
All of my AR-15's have carry handles on them. I prefer iron sights because...well...it doesn't use batteries.
However, I have come across two red dots that have caught my attention. I have read everything I can find on them and watched a lot of you tube videos.
Eotech and Aimpoints are out of the question. I can't financially justify spending that kind of money right now.
The two red dots that I am looking at is the Bushnell TRS-25 (about $100) and the Vortex Sparc (about $200).
Does anyone have any hands-on experience with either of these dots?

I have no idea. I can't find them anywhere. They both look sweet. I wonder if the vortex kill flash works well.
I have been leaning towards the Vortex because they make a magnifier specifically for their red dots.
When I shoot, it could be at targets from 15 yards to 200+ yards. I can hit targets the size of a dinner plate with my iron sights up to 250 yards fairly consistently but my target acquisition is much slower than those that are using some form of optic.

Fuck the AR-15. It killed my cousin. Screw it

If you want a red dot got for something like a holographic sight and try to get it in blue or purple. That's what I use for my car-15 and works perfectly. The dot color helps a lot cause it takes away glare for me. I just find red to "shine or glare" way to much while blue dosnt.Ɗɪϻɪƞɪsʜɛʀꀨ😲🔫😏 wrote:

I'm a little color blind. I have trouble telling red from orange and blue from green. Purple gives me trouble on occasion too.
I have looked at the holographic dots as well. For whatever reason, the micro red dots seem to appeal to me a little more.
-
Then I would try out 5 different sites and watever one you like the best you buy
-
I find the red dot easier to see by contrast to the rest of the lens.
-
I haven't used either so can't comment, but I have used a Primary Arms red dot with a PA magnifier. It was accurate, and they get great reviews for durability and accuracy.
-
I prefer iron sights on anything because it can be adjusted, of course that's my thing. I just like the dependability.

I don't own any guns😉
However, if I did And it were a Bushmaster AR15, I would use a bushnell as it is cheaper and I would save up for the holographic red dot that I REALLY wanted. I would also look into a side mount scope so that I could still use my iron sights if I wanted.....

I had the Bushnell, and outside the "coolness" factor I found no improvement with it. Actually it seemed to slightly hurt my long range accuracy, but that's just me.
In my opinion, it helps if your sights are in the dark, or if you really need to see the bottom of the target... Tactical stuff.
Since I don't shoot in those conditions personally I have no need for it. It was just another thing to fidget with. Brightness, color, shape, glare, and conserving batteries distracted me from the job at hand.

A dot sight can greatly improve your accuracy, if you can use it properly. Using an M68 turned my target hits at 300m to headshots.
For true marksmanship using a dot sight, you need that dot as dim as possible. I mean dim. Turn it down until you cannot see it any more, then slowly turn it up. Stop at the exact moment which you can see the dot. Of course, the dot must be accurately sighted, which I'm sure is the problem that most people have with them in the first place.
I'll take a dot over iron sights any day. You can completely forego fundamentals with proper dot use and still be accurate.

I have shot both the Bushnell TRS-25 and the Vortex Sparc and in my opinion the Sparc is far superior. My first problem with the TRS is the hight of the optic. It sits too low from the factory to get proper sight alignment and requires the use of a riser to get 1/3 or actual co witness. My other problem with it is the overall field of view trough the optic it is too small for me and limits my field of view. The Sparc avoids these problem and with the use of an American Defense mount allows a proper 1/3 co witness. Personally I believe the Sparc is one of the best micro dots on the market; I sold my Aimpoint T1 after shooting a Sparc and bought one.

Also, Vortex as a brand overall is top notch. I also own a Viper PST 1-4x and it is one of my favorite scopes on the market.

One of the major things that I disliked about the Bushnell was that the lens, to me anyways, seemed discolored. Almost like it had a green tint to it.

My highest kill streak was with millimeter scanner because it can see through walls and what not. It comes with an escort drone if you're a good enough shot

I've got one of those. It's wicked. I remember when I was deployed to Iraq, the other lads all had to go into houses to kill the bad guys. I used to chill on the roof of the tank outside and just shoot from there. Pity I could never tell friendlies from insurgents ... -
Go with AimBot. Best sights on the market.

Yes, completely forego fundamentals with it.
Heheh...

I was never really into red dots. Idk what it is but I prefer iron sights so much more.
