Going back to the early 90's who are your 3 favorite standup comics? Include a reason if you would like.
1- Brian Regan because he got me hooked on comedy when I was younger.
2- John Mulaney- He inspired me to take up a career as a comedian, because he was young and did not do drugs like the other young comics, so he was more like me. He also influences a great deal of my material.
3- Gary Gulman- He can craft a joke like a true master. His Grapefruit and Gym Teacher Material are the best out there. -
Mitch hedberg was terrible to me, but I guess some people think he's awesome
-
1. George Carlin- because he's George Fuckin' Carlin
2. Denis Leary- a naturally funny guy. Met him a few times in the past.
3- Jim Gaffagan- because his quirky style tends to crack me up. -

I didn't like him that much, either. His jokes had no flow. He would be talking about crack, then he would talk about his bitchy neighbor with no connection. But respect the dead, I guess.Mitch hedberg was terrible to me, but I guess some people think he's awesome

Carlin. My hero.
-
Louie C.K. is one of the funniest people alive. Definitely not PG, but outstanding nonetheless.
-
Eddie Murphy , John Belushi , George Carlin
-
Carlos Mencia
-
Dave Chappelle
-
Robert Schimmel was great. Has passed away. I like Mitch Hedberg as well, but he's gone too.
-
Lee Evans and Russell Howard

Omg too many. Nakyd where have you performed? :D I've been trying to take up comedy as a career too (and although I'm good) I get rejected because I'm not 21 yet 😑
But yeah so many comedians and I personally know one of my favorite (George Lopez) I went to school with one of his niece and at her birthday party he was there (I flipped out 😆) and that's when I found out he was her uncle -

I started at 18, I actually lied about my age the first show I did at an open mic night, but then I was talking to Gary Gulman when I was opening for him and he told me that club owners don't really care how old you are as long as you're funny. I've performed at yuk Yuks in Toronto, Ny and someplaces in the UK.Omg too many. I've done open mics in Los Angeles and San Diego but there's a big club down here that have people who I know personally that say they can only give me 5 mins a night because they don't want to get in trouble. That just sucks. So now I got to wait til in 21 before being accepted and on the rotation and first time I was on stage I was.... 12 yeah it wasn't for an open mic night or anything but it was during lunch on a Friday at my high school. They were supposed to play music but the system wasn't working that day so people were just taking the mic and doing freestyle rap battles (horrible ones) so I ended it by taking the mic and just started busting jokes on everyone, kicked them off the stage and let everything I could think of just flow out of my mouth :P
Even won 3 talent cometitions from it 😆 sadly we don't get anything.... Just our picture taken 😑But yeah... UK? Wow lol I've only been throughout Cali

I am only 25, but I am trying to headbutt my way into the US circuits. My life goal is to open for John Mulaney and Brian Regan. I have only opened for one big name, Louis CK, and I only had 2 minutes for the opener, which sucked, because the patrons wanted dick jokes, but my material was a lot cleaner than CKs. but I got paid 40 bucks to see a Louis CK show, so it was cool. 💵💵💵 I got started in a way similar to you, I was 11, but I snuck into the high school during a high school talent show and I had always had an interest in comedy, but I snuck in originally to deliver a letter to a performer. I was backstage and the MC mistook me for the next guy who was a comedian. I adlibbed 5 minutes of material. The crowd loved it, but The real guy was late and ran out on stage as I finished and he had a meltdown. He grabbed me by the back of my shirt and was like, "I WAS THE FINAL ACT!" 😂😂😂

I hate the comedy hierarchy, I am below the greats, and for some reason, people lump me in with the Def Jam comics of the 90s... Even though I started in 2005.

Lmao wow
I remember after I graduated there was this one guy that I've known because we had a few classes together and he's funny and all but only in the moment when someone sets themselves up for a joke. Anyways I just remember them LITERALLY cutting his act after his first joke OMG THE DUDE BOMBED BIG TIME I felt bad for him because he came out nervous and I remember his joke word for word and it was long too
But his joke went
"So I was walking to school right, its raining so I decided to run. While I was running there was a guy on the floor hunched over I thought he needed some help so I asked him if he needed help and he said "HELP? IM PRAYING!" So I ask why are you praying in the rain? And he said "i don't know" Dead silence, No one laughed (at this point one of the teachers was already walking up to take the mic away) and he panicked resorting to blabbering how he didn't want to do it and was forced to by his mom and idk what else but it was torture -
But yeah I suggested improv (I myself am a WHOLE lot better at improv than scripted comedy, I think because I love to do a lot of crowd work idk)
But yeah I suggested that and he didn't want to listen to me lol oh well
And yeah man you're lucky I always wanted to meet Louis CK

I loved Mitch he wasn't like most comedians he was more of a one liner... Sorta.... Type of comedian. Dane cook is one I don't like. His voice alone irritates me. There's only one show that I've seen of his that made me laugh but even that wasn't good enough. I like him more as an actor than a stand up comicMitch hedberg was terrible to me, but I guess some people think he's awesome

Oh yeah, a lot of newbies think They can be comedians because they were the class clown. They really are just smarter than your average dick😂.
I'm going to quote Birbiglia: You're fat, you're gay! I'm outta here! And I was always a little fat and a little gay.
But anyway, these guys can't make a joke unless they are making fun of someone on their feet. They have no routine unless it is set up for them. -

Hahaha yeah that's why I suggested improv. A whole lot easier and a lot more fun (especially since you RARELY have to deal with hecklers) and yeah that's all you're doing. Just standing tree acting out a scene or making fun or each other OR making up something on the spot based off of a topic. I tried starting an comedy/improv club at my college..... Too bad there was NO fucking comedians at that school... 😑 Like... REALLY?Oh yeah, a lot of newbies think They can be comedians because they were the class clown. I went to a law school for 2 years. Everyone thought they could LEARN to be a comedian because they took a public speaking course. morons.
