Hi all. And bye all. Six hours ago, I received a phone call telling me I have my old job back on the fishing trawler. I said thankyou, and left to do my last shift at the pizza shop.

I hate this job. But it pays well. So, I'm going fishing. Again. I leave in five hours, and need to pack and sleep before then.

Goodbye turfwars. I will miss you. Goodbye friends. I will also miss you. Lol. Goodbye phone reception. I will really, really miss you. Haha 😝

It's rather old-fashioned in that you learn on the job. You gain qualifications along the way, just like any trade/profession 100 years ago.
To the rest of you, thanks for the replies. I will do my best to stay safe and all that lol ... It's now 3:05am and I'm about 10 minutes away from arriving at port and boarding the ship to begin work.

I think uly is saying that a 'professional' occupation normally requires tertiary study and would be considered a white collar position, for example a doctor or a a lawyer. Just labouring on a trawler wouldn't necessarily be considered 'professional'.... It's semantics though...

I boarded the ship at 3:00am this morning. It's now 9:00pm and we've been steaming for less than half an hour, thanks to our port main engine blowing a valve and cracking a head. 12 straight hours of mechanical repairs and quite a few thousand dollars later, we cast off from the pier, and here I am. We have a full day's steam ahead before shooting the nets away for our first tow of the trip. Time for a coffee, a smoke and some shut-eye.

I know nothing about boats but I do know how to fish and always wanted a job doing that lol good luck and be safe out on the water
