It's a little unrealistic. Yes, people do it, but everyone's situation is different. I personally don't want to take out more loans to get a small business started.(even cost of research can be ridiculously high). I also don't have the client base. My friends stupid problems aren't enough to pay the bills. Plus they prolly can't even afford the cost of litigation.

Legal job market sucks all over as I'm sure you're aware, even in DC now. I left LA long time ago because I didn't want anything to do w tort law..making any money in south LA usually amounts to repping offshore guys suing the oil companies, personal injury, or defending the insurance companies from the same. Get the hell out of there if you can. Every time I go home and meet a young lawyer they ask me the same.
