It's spreading all over me, help! I pulled the vine of poison ivy unaware it was poison ivy until I was holding it in my hand.

Go see a doctor?

A fact I learned recently.
You can wash it off with handsoap, if it has been less than 30 minutes, after touching it. -

Yes, more exposure can lead to more reaction, sometimes.FRΞΞ☠ΜΛSΟΠ wrote:

Dawn dish soap to remove the oils that the vine left behind , or I use brakekleen and spray on infected area it will remove the oils too
-
Be sure to wash your hands before eating or doing private stuff. Got that nasty shit in my mouth one time. Unpleasant to say the least.
Scientists claim that after the age of 35 most people "grow out of it" (the reaction that is). I would rather not test that theory.

It's actually an allergic reaction, so yes, it can. I never had it once in 16 years of tromping around in the woods, then got it last year, though minor. Like Ojibwe said, the more contact, the higher chance of becoming allergic.FRΞΞ☠ΜΛSΟΠ wrote:

Up in AK, poison ivy is a problem when hiking. I've been lucky and only got a little bit on my hand once. What you need to do is keep the infected part in the shade. It gets worse in the sunlight.
-
👆 And of course wash it out when ya get home and see a doctor if it gets bad, but keep it in the shade until you get home to minimize the pain.
-
My boss said to slap some mud on it when I was out working and it helps alot. It soothes the itch and as it dries, it pulls out some of the oils.

Poison oak is worst

No its not. Nettle barely hurts in only one spot for 30 minutes tops. Poison ivy and poison oak spread all over your body and stays for quite a while💀༄्ཧ़ཀंེབ།༨ཛყ༄💀 wrote:

Mix together athlete's foot creme, Cortazone creme, and a moisturizing creme together and once well mixed apply to the area with poison ivy and in the next few days it should go away. Before this stuff my allergic reaction to poison was.....bad to say the least. Hope this helps and hope it goes away soon.

The thing is that I work outside daily where it is 95-100 degrees. I sweat like a pig and I hear it is critical to keep your poison ivy rash dry...which I have been failing to do.

Helps to wrap it in ducktape to keep it from spreading. Words of wisdom I wish I followed when I was first told that.. 😁 But I'm serious, it does help, a lot
-
Most people aren't allergic to poison ivy or oak.
I had poison oak in my backyard in my old house sense I was a kid. And every week or so I would pull it out. Never realized it was poison oak until like 4 years later. -

I would recomend carrying Tecnu skin cleanser in your car or with you when you might be in an outdoor place and potentially exposed. It will neutralize the urushiol. Never wash with hot water it opens your pores and allows for more absorbsion of the urushiol. Also the urushiol can stay on your clothes so wash everything you might have been wearing. And avoid Handling mango skin it contains similar oils if you are allergic. I love the outdoors but poison oak and I don't get along. hang in there. It doesn't spread it just pops up in places your skin has absorbed it.
