What differentiates a sport and a game?

As the title says, how can it be that golf is considered a sport? I was raised on George Carlin and action sports(which I don't consider a "sport"). So yeah, what's the difference to you and what sports do you think shouldn't be considered a sport?cough curling cough

Poker is a sport! I watch it on the sport channels all the time.

Any game played competitively is a sport IMO.

sport has teams and defense in direct comprtition.
a game or athletic competition although it may have teams dies not include defense and can be done by an indivdual alone. imo -
Sport refers to a competitive physical activity.[1][2]
Sport is generally recognised as activities based in physical athleticism or physical dexterity.[3] Sports are usually governed by rules to ensure fair competition and consistent adjudication of the winner.

Yes golf may not be very physical or enduring.... But it takes a certain precision to play golf that most other sports don't have.
Playing golf is a lot more difficult then a game like soccer objective wise. Therefore it takes more precision. Just like baseball

Technique makes something a sport .

Hitting a ball with a crooked stick and then walking after it. Then finding it... And hitting it again! I say pick it up a$$hole, you're lucky you found the f&$king thing in the first place.

Cheerleading is not a sport.

Croquet. That GAME that you hit the ball through hoops nailed to the ground.

Debate is a sport.
There is an opponent, 2 sides, multiple strategic moves that you use to defeat your opponent, and there is the judge as well. -

You could have just said that you've never played at a competitive level and thus have no understanding of the game beyond a few minutes of watching television here and there. That would have made you look less ignorant.★fnord★ wrote:
